Chris Johnson over Justin Upton might just be the dumbest **** Fredi has ever done.

Upton career slash: .275/.356/.473 with a 118 OPS+

Johnson career slash: .289/.328/.438 with a 108 OPS+

Seems legit you guys.

RBI . . . Chris Johnson

I don't think it's really going to end up mattering. BJ is going to end up hitting 7th again and change everything.

Y'all have been busy today.

1. I don’t know about "implosion," but I do think that the NFL may come to regret its Faustian deal with fantasy football. There’s no doubt that it’s jacked interest in the NFL way through the roof, because it's fun, but I’d argue that it’s devalued their actual on-the-field product. If you’ve become used to watching the RedZone channel, then sitting and watching only one game at a time is like sitting through women’s basketball. I just feel like the key to survival over decades for a sport has to be tied to the strength of their core fans, and this wholesale embracing of fantasy by the NFL and its TV partners has made being an old-fashioned fan sort of anachronistic. I personally know two former season ticket holders who quit going to live games because they’d rather stay home and watch RedZone so they can see all the games — ie, follow their fantasy teams. When national interest in fantasy football inevitably wanes, I just don’t know that everybody’s going to go back to being a regular old school one-game-at-a-time football fan again.

2. Agree with Ben and Smalls that the only college sport that’s better is football. I used to strongly prefer college basketball but it’s pretty terrible now. You young guys missed out on it, but games played at the level of Witchita-Kentucky used to happen in the tournament all the time.

3. The football playoff needs to be at about 8. I’m not worried about devaluing the regular season because that’s already happened. Alabama’s won two national championships in the last three years after losing what should have been an elimination game.

What they should be aiming for is to increase the size of the field so that the very best teams are all in that field, but that that Tennessee-Florida game in September still feels like it’s got everything riding on it. I think having only about two at-large teams for the whole country would do that.

4. I would also rank the NBA playoffs low, but only because the first round (or sometimes two) is completely superfluous.

Z, what's this basketvols recruiting class gonna be like?

It will be Martin's best overall class. No Wes Washpun or Derek Reese type players. All four can play.

Phil Cofer- A really athletic four that will be a monster. Will be a fan favorite from day one. Tries to dunk everything. Block shots everywhere. Will start at PF.

Best case scenario potential: Talib Zanna

Larry Austin Jr.- The most true point guard the Vols will have since C.J. Watson. He can really defend, some analysts think he's the best defensive PG in this class. Drive and dish PG first. Needs to work on his shot and finishing in the lane. I think he starts next year.

Best case scenario potential: Aaron Craft

C.J. Turman- A big, wide body at center. Really good length and has very solid shot blocking instincts. Can finish around the hoop. Needs to work on his lateral quickness and his offensive post game, but he has the potential to be a starter here.

Best case scenario potential: Rakeem Christmas

Jordan Cornish- A very athletic, defense first wing player. Really good size and attacks the rim with ferociousness. Needs to work on his outside shot and be a better ball handler.

Best case scenario potential: Casey Prather

I agree with most of this, but unfortunately, I don't think fantasy football is going anywhere any time soon. There are obviously some casual folks who are playing just for the fun of it, but there are also a ton of folks out there who stand to win large chunks of money for winning their fantasy leagues each year. As long as that carrot is dangling out in front of people, they're going to care about their fantasy teams.

I think Cuban made good points about them reaching a point of diminishing returns by trying to play 3 or 4 nights a week. The bottom line is most people don't want to do the same thing every night.

If you think the first (or second) round of the nba playoffs is pointless, you haven't been paying attention to the western conference.

Even this year the first round may not be great, but once that's done the Western Conference playoffs are going to be phenomenal this year. With the Bulls and Nets surging, Heat struggling and the Pacers in an all out tailspin right now, the second round in the East might not be the formality we were all thinking it was either.

I really hope Fredi moves Walden to the 7th/8th inning and Carpenter back to the 6th. I feel better with Walden in late inning situations.

It just doesn't strike me as something that's still likely to be a big thing in 10 or 15 years. I mean, think about how long ago Napster and AOL chatrooms and "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" were. Is fantasy football going to survive that long? And yet everything about the coverage now is pushing people into it.

It's easy to see why -- it turns people into fans of the entire NFL, rather than just one team, and right now those guys will watch any game any time. I just wonder how sustainable a strategy it is to thoroughly embrace something that makes your actual product beside the point.

The fact that ESPN keeps on adding college football games to almost every weeknight of the schedule makes me think that the NFL knows what they're doing. I won't watch all of them and you won't watch all of them, but we'll both watch some of them. The ratings will probably be higher than whatever the networks have on right now which is all that matters.

What are our feelings going into Friday's night game? I'm a anxiously relaxed if that makes sense.
