Aubrey Phillips Leaves Florida State

Was he pursued heavily by Kiffin's staff?

They would have taken him but I'm not sure how much effort they really put into him.

He is a horrible fit for the type of lean athletic offensive lineman that fits into the scheme Tennessee is looking for.

He is always going to have big-time weight issues in college and just doesn't have the work ethic to ever fix that. I dont see how he fits into the scheme Trickett likes at FSU either.

Do you think our staff felt the same way about Schoefield?

I read he was just homesick

yeah, homesick. Homesick is a big deal for these kids getting away from home. That is biggest issue UT coaches have with frist year players, talking them into staying. those that redshirt are the worse because they don't feel like they are part of the team.

Coaches spend many a night sitting in dorm room talking a kid out of going home after a Mommy called the coach because junior was wanting to come home.

I know Nuke has already hit the homesickness phase at least once...

I thought cregg had JerQuari Schofield highest on the list. Or atleast thats what he said at that recruiting celebration.

Yeah...ts was referring to Schoefield...and that's what I thought I just never was sure how our staff felt about Schoefield...

I think he and Douglas are going to be a force at tackle with Stone and Fulton being our guards and Revis being the center...

We just have to stomach the 2010 season where our OL will be a nightmare while these guys acclimate themselves to the SEC

For real...or is that sarcasm?

this is what Hubbs said on Askew, Matt..

Got a hell of set of dreadlocks. Physically arrived in what looks to be good shape. He is not heavy or anything. If he can learn the system he will have great chance to contribute early.

The staff loved Schoefield. The guy is nowhere near overweight. He doesn't have bad weight at all and his frame is very impressive. You look at him and he looks like a man. He's raw but athletically and frame-wise he is 100X more impressive than Phillips.
Phillips has always just looked fat and sloppy and out of shape.

Larry, what have you heard about Askew and King? Also, i heard King showed up 6'3'' 220.

Tennessee is going to need one of them to come in and win a starting spot at LB this year. LB is a huge concern area and they absolutely cannot afford to start LaMarcus Thompson or this defense is in big-time trouble.

Assuming one of them does unseat Thompson...which one do you think it will be?

I really like King's size and speed. I think he'll see the field this year.
Heck 6'3" running a 4.5 forty try him at reciever

Askew has only been here for a couple of weeks so nothing on him. If King that big, I would be surprised. Usually, height / weight is stated "over" what is reality.

I haven't gotten much on this summer stuff but what you usually hear is over blown stuff. Upper classmen rave about the recruits and then the recruits hit a walll when staff gets a hold of them. Really funny.:)

That is a good question. I think most of it depends on which position at Linebacker Kiffin/Thompson see them both projecting at.

I do know one thing they need a huge upgrade in the lineup over Thompson or this defense is in trouble. The kid just doesn't have the athleticism or speed to play at this level.

This guy really ticked me off with his recruitment. I remember really hating him on signing day. I still wanted him and don't think he is a bad player. Olive Branch is really part of the Memphis fence in my opinion.

"I am still 100 percent committed to Tennessee," Phillips said. "But I am going to take all of my visits just to travel and see some other places. Tennessee has nothing to worry about; I am fully committed to being a Vol."

"I like how he (Kiffin) tells you like it is," Phillips said. "You know exactly where things stand with him.

Wow!! Just...Wow!!!

And to think...I was really pissed off when he snubbed us on signing day

Phillips committed to UT in June 2008 but expressed concern about coach Phillip Fulmer's ouster later that fall. Phillips chose Florida State over UT and Auburn, which made a strong push just before National Signing Day.

Correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't Arkansas the other school that made a push, not Auburn?
