Auburn and their “coaching search”

He was black balled when Saban tried to hire him as his OC in 2018. By the time Auburn was doing the coaching search to replace Gus, I think that had worn off. Auburn hiring Freeze this time would be a horrible look after trying to get Harsin fired for, among other things, banging an assistant.

As long as YF is calling the shots there, I don't think he'd want Freeze. Freeze has a name/reputation of his own, knows what he is doing, and wouldn't do something just because a booster told him to. Everything I heard out of Auburn was that YF wanted Steele, and nobody else, to have the job because he's close personal friends with him. Auburn is really between a rock and a hard place because he appears to have dictatorial-level powers among their booster base; they can't play off various factions of boosters like Danny White could when he took the job. Danny could come in and plausibly claim "We've tried all the boosters' ways, and they have failed. Let me pick a coach" and got people to go along with it. I'm not sure Auburn can do that right now.
What a damn mess. Feels so good/unusual for us not to be described the way Auburn is right now .

I still think we (for now) have the single craziest coaching search of all time, but honestly the overall level of dysfunction here I don't think has ever been as bad as it is at Auburn right now. Auburn's upcoming search might exceed Schiano Sunday.

Don't be shocked i say once again if somehow The Yellow Man buys Mark Stoops away from Kentucky and Mark Stoops is announced as the next Auburn head football coach.

Auburn's current situation is a nightmare. The Schiano thing was indeed a debacle. Although this is on a whole different level. Multiple "inside sources/boosters" trying to get the coach fired for infidelity. Now basically the same people are talking about a coaching search. Dude hasn't been fired yet.

Imagine being Harsin and trying to recruit.
Imagine the AD search.

There's nothing to recommend Auburn whether you're a football player or a coach or even AD. I have no idea why anyone here thinks it's a decent job.

It's clear from Gus that they don't give a d*mn about paying a coach off who can't meet ridiculous expectations. It's clear from Greene they don't mind dumping an AD if he stands up to Yella.

It's a sewer just waiting to overflow again.

Auburn might accidentally make a good Coaching hire like Mark Stoops,Jamie Chadwell,Paul Chryst,Jason Candle or Todd Monken.

The problem is not just that Auburn needs a new coach.

They need a strong AD, admins with a set, AND a decent SEC caliber coach....... they have none of those currently.

If he wants to compete for a national title, he needs to leave Kentucky. I just don't think Auburn (where they have no patience) is the solution.

I could see him working out at Nebraska. NIL money has changed the game on recruiting and Nebraska may be able to pull in bigger recruits now. But he needs to go somewhere that has the rare combination of (a) having patience and (b) can still compete for a national title. Somewhere like Virginia Tech would be interesting for him if that comes open again; but at this point VT may not even be able to offer as much money as Kentucky.
Nothing and no coach can save Nebraska

Nebraska can be a team that wins 6-7 games in the B1G every year.
Bo Pelini won 8-9 and so it is doable.
A coach can go bowling for a few years and get them going, but then unrealistic expectations will doom that situation.
They need to get a FCS championship level coach and build from the ground up.
Coach boys up and be competitive.

Just hope that Auburn takes a page from previous Tennessee coaching searches and hires a subpar head coach that splits their boosters and fanbase causing them to be in the same spot 2-3 years from now.
