Auburn and their “coaching search”

Only issue with Rhule is that his record against ranked teams is really bad. At Temple he was 2-5 against ranked opponents and at Baylor he was 0-11. That could be a hard sell to the Auburn faithful.
That’s crazy. I thought he went 11-2 his last year at Baylor. They didn’t beat a single ranked team that year?

I also wonder if Kliff Kingsbury might find himself out of a job soon. AZ continues to be an afterthought in the NFC West. They're currently 2-3 on the year. If they lose 4 of their next 6 games, they would be staring at another January at home. A loss to the Chargers before their BYE week could be the last straw.

He would likely be a hot commodity in the college world given his elite offenses.

He's also led 2 epic turnaround jobs, which is exactly what Auburn would be if he went there. Temple basically never beats ranked teams. Baylor does, but he was also leading the program out of a scandal that was the equivalent of having a nuclear bomb dropped on the program. The fact that he had them a couple of plays away from winning the Big 12 just a few years after that happened is incredible.

I'm not saying he's bad a college coach. Just pointing out why Auburn fans will complain about him.

I honestly don't think they would at this point. They know how toxic of a reputation that job has right now. Some of their more unhinged fans would be upset because they want Kiffin, but I think most would be happy with Rhule.

That was hard for me to believe when I first read it, but according to Wiki it's right. "Ranked" meaning ranked at the time Baylor played them.

They only played 3 ranked teams that year. Lost 2 nailbiters to Oklahoma and then played UGA tough at times in the Sugar Bowl, but they were too much for them.

Can't wait to see those fans when Kiffin doesn't give Auburn the time of day during the search.

Oh I think he would. He loves being pursued.

Idk man. His kids are older and Oxford much better scene than Auburn.... At some point, your kids are old enough to understand your shenanigans are childish and embarrassing. Tiger is case in point.

He got fired from his las college job. Which was Texas Tech

Was just coming here to post this. If Auburn wants to fix the mess they’ll hire Rhule and move forward. Is it a flashy hire no but at minimum hell fix the foundation and leave the roster bare for the next man.

Right @BUBear ?
I'm thinking Rhule gives Arizona State serious consideration. He already has his Penn State roommate, former Baylor OC Jeff Nixon, on staff there as OC which will help in a smoother transition with current players.

The problem is can he get Phil Snow to go with him as DC. I saw an interview with a Carolina beat writer last night saying Rhule and Snow had a falling out about how things went down at Carolina. Considering Snow's age he might just want to pack it in and call it a career.

His oldest daughter is coming to Ole Miss next year or just started there this year too. I don’t think he leaves as soon as she arrives to school.

Yep. He's also a king there. Easiest job he'll have in his career. And the portal prolly helping him bigly too.

Kliff has said multiple times he has zero desire to recruit again. When Arizona fires him he’ll be an OC or QB Coach, or join a broadcast booth

College playoff expansion changes the game too. Kiffin can never beat Alabama, go 10-2 and make the playoffs most years for a cool $5-6M and be a king in Oxford.

Also, whether people choose to believe or not, Lane had a major religious conversion the last few years and has talked about much he has worked to mature (he quit drinking for example) and how important his support system is. Part of being sober (as I can attest too) is making sure you put yourself in the right situation. Taking in the Auburn job would not be that lol.

Yeah and he obviously took care of his health. Dude was chunky last year. The guy can be a jackass, but he's really found his spot in Oxford. I've always thought he'd end up coaching Arch. I think if Sark doesn't work out at Texas, that could be a reality

With MissSt rising, LSU (realistically should come back sooner rather than later on talent alone), Texas and/or OK coming, Pittman's new dangerous Arkansas, A&M, BAMA, and new improved Auburn (when they get a coach who fits) on his annual schedule, I wonder how many wins Kiffin can count on each season. 10-2 maybe every 4-5 seasons. Most seasons are going to be minefields for Ole Miss. He will need a generational QB every 4 years to compete.
He can work wonders with QBs, but he is probably at the crest of his OM tenure.

Manning family doesn't like Kiffin. If Kiffin gets the Texas job, Arch hits the portal.

Why? The bar is low at Kentucky. Hell Stoops could retire there. He will if he’s smart. The difference in pay isn’t worth the amount of BS that goes with the Auburn job.

Kiffin or Freeze would be perfect choices for Auburn.
Lane Kiffin will never beat Saban with any team at any school, even if Saban stays past his prime. That alone would get him fired at Auburn.

It would be interesing if Auburn hired Coastal Carolina head coach Jamie Chadwell.

I'll be honest, I don't think any up and comer with high ceiling career prospects would touch that job unless they wanted a payday.

If they can Harsin, I think Auburn is going to be in the "Dooley" stage of their program. Any competent coach will want control and certain things. I 100000% see Auburn throwing up roadblocks to decent hires like we did with Coach Cut and staffing. Auburn will likely find a coach that will just say yes to whatever to get a SEC head coach gig.

Take politics out of it, but Auburn needs a stable next head coach. They are not better off since canning Gus. Would he come back? I imagine moving back to Auburn would be upgrade from Orlando.

Someone mentioned it but on paper, Stoops would be a good hire from UK, but the expectations would crush him.

Auburn is almost more toxic than Tennessee was.... It is why I think Kelly will get more time at LSU than most think as long as he wins 8-9 games his first couple of seasons. LSU could easily go down this Auburn route if they get knee jerky.
