Auburn and their “coaching search”

I told an Auburn fan friend from work that they are currently in Dooley stage.
I disagree.
Harsin is a decent X's and O's coach. He can coach, but not on the Auburn level. He and his "lifestyle" just were not ready for the meat grinder at Auburn. He was used to being the king in a small town without a passionate fanbase or friendly/hostile press corps. He did not pay enough homage to the powers that be and is now a dead man walking. All his personal stumbles with the press and donors killed his potential to succeed. His team saw he was outmatched by the situation, and the collapse happened.

Brian Harsin wont be unemployed long i think he will be Boise State head coach when they fire Andy Avalos in December.

Stoops would be an idiot to even entertain the Auburn job. He’s got it made in Lexington, getting paid life changing money at a place where 8-4 is a good season. Why take on a job with the most insane boosters in the country just for $1.5-2 million more a year?[/QUOTE]
Well…………..
They’ve actually won multiple National championships in HIS lifetime, so it’s actually possible there,
It’s Not just a basketball school, top ten recruiting classes are possible every year,
And yeah , what could you do with an extra 2 million 🤣🤣😂🤷🏻‍♂️

No i think Lane Kiffin will be holding out for Texas or Texas A&M

I think it might surprise some but I don't think Kiffin is looking to leave Oxford anytime soon. Transfer portal has made that job much more manageable.

With that said in regards to Auburn, I think they would be dumb to not take a look at Bret Bielema for another SEC stint. This of course depends on rest of the season, but it is entirely possible that he goes 10-2 / 9-3 at Illi-freaking-nois.

Has SEC experience at dogsh!t program. Obviously Auburn is cleaning house this season in their AD and soon to be football program. I do think Auburn and potentially A&M are on the cusp of falling into a period of irrelevance like Tennessee did in the 2010's......

The fall of Auburn is just wild to me......Like Harsin doesn't have that terrible record as a coach, but man that job is toxic.

Mark Stoops leaves for Auburn and Kentucky hires Hugh Freeze or Jamie Chadwell for the next Kentucky head football coach.

I don’t think Freeze would touch Kentucky job. Especially with emergence of Tennessee and maybe Napier being decent. Kentucky basically becomes ole miss of the east. Spurts of 9 wins here or there but never contend for division title. Freeze has comfy gig at Liberty.

Agreed. If I’m Auburn it’s all in on Freeze or Kiffin.

I think Freeze would entertain the interview process. I don’t think Kiffin waste any time with it. Transfer portal making his job easier to make Ole Miss contend with new highs and with his kids older, Oxford beats Auburn. I think Auburn is gonna fall harder than we did in Dooley/Butch years.

Butthead needs to stay in the Big 10…if he’s capable of learning.

Matt Rhule just got canned in Carolina. He's probably towards the top of the list of likely candidates now. But he'll probably be on Nebraska's radar too.

He will be a hot property for some, based on his resurrection of Baylor.

@BUBear What did Baylor folks think of Rhule when he was there?

If Auburn had any sense they would hire Rhule and let him build the program. I think he’s a very good college coach.

Was just coming here to post this. If Auburn wants to fix the mess they’ll hire Rhule and move forward. Is it a flashy hire no but at minimum hell fix the foundation and leave the roster bare for the next man.

Right @BUBear ?

Only issue with Rhule is that his record against ranked teams is really bad. At Temple he was 2-5 against ranked opponents and at Baylor he was 0-11. That could be a hard sell to the Auburn faithful.

He's also led 2 epic turnaround jobs, which is exactly what Auburn would be if he went there. Temple basically never beats ranked teams. Baylor does, but he was also leading the program out of a scandal that was the equivalent of having a nuclear bomb dropped on the program. The fact that he had them a couple of plays away from winning the Big 12 just a few years after that happened is incredible.
