Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

You're right, it's not. There is an Around the NCAA forum and how do you know no one ever reads it? Maybe there is that forum for crap like this so people interested in Tennessee football won't have to wade through bs like this.

I am blown away by how proud of you I am right now. way to nut up. pun intended

This story keeps getting better and better. I think Cecil is doing damage control at this point if this source is correct. I still believe Auburn will be implicated. The dots just connect too well.

Rumor central: 3 schools offered Cam money and you guys might not like who one of the schools is. We'll see... most of the rumors on this story are turning out to be true.

Boy wonder didn't even offer him a scholarship, let alone greenbacks.

I don't like LSU. Are they one?

Nope. Like I said you are not going to like the rumor. Lamo really stuck it to you guys. Not sounding good at all. Hopefully the rumor is wrong but most of the time they end up turning to be true. The same guy posted everything that happened this week with this out on a website last week.

Tony Barnyard just said that Cecil has now admitted that he solicited funds for Cam to play. Apparently he's trying to say Cam was clueless.....ha. Well, its on Auburn now, I bet they play him today.

What difference will it make as long as no money changed hands on UT or Lane's part? The transfer of money and the bank statements that would accompany such a transaction will be the only way to get concrete evidence that it happened. Everything else will just be conjecture as to who else had their hat in the ring with offers, but it likely can't ever be proven one way or the other.

I just did a quick google and this is about all I came up with. This is from some guy named njtidebuck on an OSU scout forum.

According to what I heard today (from someone close to the source) Tennessee was involved as well. According to sources, the original $200,000 was the figure Tennesse boosters came up with. This figure was then given to Mississippi State (where Cam Newton originally wanted to go) and supposedly, the number was reduced to $180,000 because Cam Newton wanted to play for Mullins at Miss. State.

Another one from an LSU forum from a guy named Nacho

Don't know if you guys care to hear this.... But, I just got off of the phone with a buddy of mine who coaches at Tennessee and he said they all heard he was paid 300k late last winter/early spring. Said no one moved on it because they didn't think they were dumb enough to leave an awesome trail of evidence... They also believe Bama backers are behind all of this because they aren't wanting to finish the season with 3 losses fwiw..

All that could easily be true, but how can it come back to really bite UT unless we actually paid him something? People can throw out accusations all they want, but there won't be any incriminating evidence against the schools who never paid him anything.

SEC commish slammed MSU yesterday. Sounds like information from MSU was leaked to the news before given to the officials. Why does MSU want this played out in the media before it was investigated? What other school benifits from this?

"During an interview today about the Newton case, Slive also called on the public to reserve judgment before "established facts" are determined and suggested disappointment in Mississippi State for not following procedures in reporting accusations to the league office."

"Slive said the original phone calls from Mississippi State in January generated enough information for the conference to seek more about what was said and to whom.

"We got some limited information," he said. "We said we need more information, go back and interview people."

"Without getting into any minute detail, for people to assume there was no follow-up for information (by the SEC office) would be wrong," Slive said. "There was timely follow-up from our office between January and July. As Mississippi State indicated, these requests were not fulfilled. We followed up in a timely way. Given the need for people to have a month or more to do that, we asked again. In six years, we've never had a problem with that."

An ESPN.com story earlier this week said Mississippi State made the SEC aware of the alleged conversations Cam and Cecil Newton had with Mississippi State "recruiters" regarding a pay-for-play plan. But the SEC has said Mississippi State did not report that information in January or July.

Asked why Mississippi State did not share that information with the SEC, Slive replied, "I never put myself in somebody else's head. That's really a question to ask somebody else other than me."

Why is Slive even making statements if the SEC is not an investigating body? Sounds to me like Slive tried to keep this quiet and is now trying to cover his tracks.

Has there been any rumors as to weather teams had to pay a certain amount of money up front to even get a chance to talk to the newtons, in order to get a spot at the negotiating table, ie down payment?
