Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

he needs someone to tell him what to say. i don't think he's going to jail or something.

did he report the income? the irs might be interested in that.

Well it's too late for all that. You can't be a virgin twice.

As far as income, the IRS investigates either tax liability through their civil division or if it's criminal through CID. The FBI is there on something else I would imagine.

fbi could be involved if the church was used to launder the money. patriot act gives them jurasdiction in such matters.

Yes, Money laundering would be something else. If Cecil was just paid for the services for Cam that would not be a FBI thing. Now say someone took money from an Auburn account and funneled it to Cecil that would be a FBI issue. Like I mentioned, the FBI isn't involved because of a pay to play issue, most probably there is something else.

There is all kinds of things this could be.
- Extortion, say someone found out and tried to extort Auburn.
- Someone took money from somewhere they shouldn't to pay him, that could be embezzlement

As of right now, to me Cam is an ineligible player as of last Tuesday when all the information started coming out. What Auburn is doing is.... well, it's not going to turn out good for them the longer they continue this circus. Someone over there might want to get a clue.

What is funny is ESPN anchors try and talk around the 10000 ton elephant in the room.

His dad admitted he was seeking a deal, everything that came out appears to be true.

Not much too it really.

- Various people claimed Cam and father admitted he was going to Auburn because of money
- Father was looking for 100-180k and was looking a hand out
- MSU turned the claim over to the SEC/NCAA
- Father first denied he was looking for money
- Now Father claims he was looking for money but said Cam didn't know..... sure buddy

Basically, just like the Tiger Woods thing, it's all came out as being true.
The FBI is probably not just investigating pay to play college football. I am hearing all kinds of stuff, my guess a portion of it sticks and I don't think Cam is the only one.

Auburn's AD at this point is a freaking moron.

To add to this: MSU did not inform the SEC about the phone conversations between Cecil and coaches nor the meeting with coaches/Rogers/Cecil Newton.

As of yet, no one has claimed (publicly) that Auburn or boosters gave Newton anything.

That is the next important piece -- finding evidence that Auburn paid or even that Newton sought payment.

Hard to make opinions til the pieces fall, but AU being involved takes a different turn if the Cecil soliciting story is correct. (which many claim now)

The smoke around AU is thicker IMO if this is true.

Here's an interesting hypothetical for ya:

Based on MSU's comments and time line they continued recruiting Cam even after the solicitation; presumably on the assumption that even if they didn't pay he may still come there.

Q: If Cam had gone to MSU but MSU didn't pay Cecil would MSU ever have told the NCAA about the solicitation?

Follow-up Q: Why did MSU not tell the SEC about the solicitation meetings and conversations? Did they hope another school would get busted and telling Slive would have allowed him to warn other schools?

1.Q - IMO, no. Not until they had to.:)

2.Q - Did they hope someone else might get busted? Maybe.
Had the offer already been made to another school that was willing to play ball? Maybe

In that case no reason to call "fire" just point at the smoke and let the rest be figured out.

Report: Auburn signee has seven grade changes - USATODAY.com

Quote:
The newspaper, citing officials close to the situation, said the player has signed to play for the Tigers. All-state lineman Nick Fairley is the only Williamson graduate who is a 2007 Auburn signee.
Huh.
:eek:hmy:
