Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

Auburn has lawyered up

In the most telling "report" yet, Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports, the guy who broke both the Reggie Bush story in 2006 and nailed ex-North Carolina assistant John Blake earlier this fall -- in other words, an extremely credible reporter who knows a little something about NCAA investigations -- tweeted this Saturday: "Interesting note about Auburn, they have hired ex-NCAA [Committee on Infractions Chairman] Gene Marsh to work on Cam Newton issue. They intend [to] fight it all the way."

From the tigerdroppings site (a copy of what W&L posted)...

You are about to be publically humiliated and punished harder than any College Football team in history..except SMU.

Cam will be stricken from your record books. All wins, championships, and records will be gone. You will spend a decade at the BOTTOM of the SEC West, and financial hits will devastate your entire school (note..not the AD alone).

You will reinforce your reputation as the most corrupt college program in history. You will be forced to change the name of your "field". You will lose to Alabama for a decade if not more. And finally, if leadership can be brought to the forefront, (and yes, this is the only prediction about which I cannot put forth what I consider strong evidence), you will be kicked out of the Southeastern Conference in a unanimous vote.

Enjoy this limited run. And Will Collier..yes I know you will read this post...Hell is REALLY coming to burn your program to the ground. Go ahead and get your "conspiracy theories" ready..go ahead and try to figure out how you can claim championships that were rightfully stipped from you..go ahead and focus on how you will bring down Alabama, your singular obsession in life.

Yella Fella is on the 'Barns Board of Trustees.

Where did the wood to remodel Cecil Newton’s church come from?

Good grief, there are A LOT of scary possibilities being thrown around in that Tiger Droppings thread. I mean, Auburn losing its accreditation? Obviously it's all hearsay and speculation, but that would be unbelievable. If corruption is that rampant in the Ugliest Village On The Plains, this could get mighty interesting.

I eagerly await new developments.

I've stopped following the Cam stuff during the weekend, and now no one can shut up about how good Auburn and Cam are. It's like the scandal isn't an issue and no one saw the dirty game.

Can anyone recap what has happened in this saga since the weekend started? Last big news I heard was that Cecil admitted to "talks regarding pay-to-play."

Not much too it really.

- Various people claimed Cam and father admitted he was going to Auburn because of money
- Father was looking for 100-180k and was looking a hand out
- MSU turned the claim over to the SEC/NCAA
- Father first denied he was looking for money
- Now Father claims he was looking for money but said Cam didn't know..... sure buddy

Basically, just like the Tiger Woods thing, it's all came out as being true.
The FBI is probably not just investigating pay to play college football. I am hearing all kinds of stuff, my guess a portion of it sticks and I don't think Cam is the only one.

Auburn's AD at this point is a freaking moron.

cecil really needs to shut up and lawyer up.

I don't know why he would need a lawyer to be honest. He has every right to ask for money, and the NCAA has every right for kicking his son out on his ass.

Seriously doubt the FBI is there to discuss pay to play, gambling maybe, there is something else going on and I haven't heard him talking to the FBI.

He has already spilled the beans.

he needs someone to tell him what to say. i don't think he's going to jail or something.

did he report the income? the irs might be interested in that.

Some I have heard claim that is how the AA will come to the info they want on the money end.

I thought about that a couple of days ago in all this. Lots of people could have some fun with this by the time it's all said and done.
