Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

Maybe Kiffin did not bring him here b/c Hambone spent so much on Fulmer's severance pay and not enough was left to get Cam. I somehow knew that $6m was a good deal.

Go Mocs. This is your chance to walk in with a surprise attack this weekend! :-D

The tragedy in all this is that I remember when John Bond was playing. That's how old I am.

Many people (on this board and others) seem to think that this will pass over as if it was nothing. The fact is that ESPN is reporting it and the NCAA is doing an investigation. For ESPN to be reporting it, there must be some truth to it, or at least enough smoke to get them to talk about it. When the NCAA announces an investigation to the public, there is more to the story than they let out. You can bank on that. Also, if you read Herbstreit's statement, it really makes you wander.

"It's too early to say but talking to sources it's going to get really bad for Auburn in the end....Cam will go on to the NFL after the season and could careless what happens...Auburn will be the school that will get hammered for this and if some of the things being said comes out to be true and Auburn knew and paid for Newton and it sure seems to be smoke there...you will be talking about killing off a program for the next 10yrs the way the NCAA will hammer them."

I retract my earlier statement :whistling:

Hope it's not true - Cam Newton as a player is a great story. No one is more dominant and at the same time having more fun than this guy. He is a joy to watch. Sucks people allegedly were selling him.

Wow!! That is heavy stuff!! Cam really could care less about Auburn too. Earlier this year he was quoted saying something along the lines of his heart was still in Florida and he wished he was there.

Here is the big question. In the digging, will they find evidence that Kiffin and staff offered $$$ to Cam and if so, would that affect us in any way since a transaction did not take place?

I think it would be difficult for them to find proof about Kiffin and co. offering $$$. Not saying it didn't happen, but if they're just going by offers, then I doubt there was much in writing there that could be traceable. Also, from the comments made by Bond, it sounds like there were multiple schools offering. To try to track down that entire list seems impossible.

And yes, I agree with you and Herbie that Newton doesn't give 2 cents about Auburn. He'll be in the pro's making millions by the time this is settled.

Aubie should take the "CYA" approach and bench Newton. They will look really bad if any of this mess is true.

I completely disagree. Auburn's only chance at winning the SEC or the BCS title is with Newton. If the NCAA finds any wrongdoing they will be stripped of wins in every game he played in, so it won't matter anyway. Put it this way, if Auburn benches Newton, it's pretty much an admission of guilt.

Im sure if we go by the people Cam associated with then he has to know that you got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em. Know when to walk away, know when to run.

Also. You never count your money, when your sitting at the table. There be time enough for countin when the dealing's done.

Yeah I'm not expecting the death penalty. Newton to be ruled ineligible, forfeiture of games, multi year probation are my expectations.

If this is true.

i would think Malzahn would jump ship pretty quickly, which would be icing on the Auburn cake.

I have to wonder if any other stories about Auburn recruits/current players come out now that this has surfaced.

I'd almost have to think that there would be. I don't see how you only pay one guy, and leave the rest high and dry. Dyer would be another guy I'd wonder about.

i bet everybody in Dyer's family has their cell phones turned off right about now.

Too much smoke. When a number that big is thrown around, the NCAA will leave no stone unturned. Frankly, I wonder if the Auburn staff has the collective IQ to cover their tracks well enough to escape without penalty.

I have to ask how much the gators paid him out of high school?

meyer and foley are smart enough to have him sign a confidentiality clause. also he knows percy harvin, brandon spikes, and the pouncey's would kick his ass gangstyle.

If they don't it will turn that program on its head. I don't feel bad for some odd reason.

Auburn knows if it is guilty or not, how they handle the situation on Saturday will be intersting.

Did Trooper not cover it with one of his towels?
