Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

I guess some people enjoy watching bama play for the national title? :dunno:
Honestly, the best way to keep AL out of title game is without Cam. They are likely to win out and beating Cam-less AU doesn't look good to voters.

I don't see that happening. Can't see the voters sending a Boise/TCU/Utah into the NC over a 1-loss defending NC from the SEC

But the voters suck. IMO, this doesn't help ALs case. With Newton, AU looks like real competition, though they aren't. AL would have to make hay with LSU and repayment pounding of SCe. SCe missing title game would hurt them as well.

Not saying it's how it will be, but I think it actually hurts ALs chances. AU isn't beating AL, regardless of QB.

Without Cam, everyone will expect them to beat Auburn...especially if Georgia finds a way to clip the Tigers before the Iron Bowl.

If TCU beats Utah, they might be in.

It is much better for UT recruiting if the WarEagleTigers are knocked back down. Saban is going to recruit with or without the NC. He doesn't give a rat's ass what UT, Auburn, Florida, Georgia or LSU are doing.

It will help tremendously on the Georgia recruiting front. Columbus is cranking out all kind of D1 talent these days.

I don't think there is a team in the SEC that can beat Oregon this year anyway. Saban with six weeks to prepare may not be able to get it done.

I don't know about that. Bama can smash it with two good backs for 4 quarters. I think they'd be too physical for Oregon.

I think you have to throw the ball downfield consistently to beat them. No way O is going to wear out first. I don't think McElroy is up to the task.

I would think slowing the game down would be the answer. Speeding up the game only plays in Oregons favor.

Auburn v. Oregon would be a track meet, and probably a highly entertaining ball game.

But, because of the contrast in style, I think Alabama v. Oregon would be the most interesting matchup.

You cannot outscore them running the ball. They are going to get their points. They only need the ball for about 50 seconds.

Much more entertaining.

Six weeks to prepare for Oregon's pace certainly increases your chances versus six days.

Bama will need a passing game to win, but their running game should offer some 1-on-1s for Jones, and give McElroy a chance to stretch them with play-action. And Bama's running game should keep the Tide defense rested and the Oregon offense off the field and out of rhythm.

And, if rested, I think Alabama's team speed can neutralize the Oregon offense.

Possibly but I think there is something to be said for a rythm of their offense contributing to it's success. Look how we were able to run the ball in the first half of our game. I see no reason why Bama couldn't do that for two halves and their D could get more stops than ours could. Hell, it may only take them 50 seconds to score but that might be their T.O.P per quarter with the way Bama could take the air out of the ball.

Dude on Rivals Radio just suggested that there are pictures surfacing of Kenny Rogers with Newton and his family on a visit to Auburn. More incriminating evidence.

Sure you can, you don't allow them to get into their rythm and they don't score as easily. Oregon scores in 50 seconds because they try and wear the opposing defense down.

UT kept it to them for 2 1/2 quarters, I don't know enough about Bama's defense to know if they have the depth and talent to keep Oregon off balance. But it is defintely doable.

Also. You never count your money, when your sitting at the table. There be time enough for countin when the dealing's done.

BTW, thanks for this. May have been considered too much of a lay up for most on here but, since I was late to the party on this thread, I was reading through the first few pages waiting for this joke. Knew it was coming, still laughed.

Its gonna get so nasty for Auburn.

I bet the denial is rampant on the Auburn boards

This is more than some Pete Thamel article. The fact that the national media has picked it up so quickly is not a good sign for the WET.
