Auburn/Cam Newton situation (merged)

It may not be near as severe as SMU, but damn close.

SMU payed players for years out of that slush fund, even after the 1st investigation.

Auburn already has a history of cheating, so they will be treated accordingly by the NCAA
Yeah I'm not expecting the death penalty. Newton to be ruled ineligible, forfeiture of games, multi year probation are my expectations.

If this is true.

The NCAA will take it's time to gather facts. They will make darn sure their case is air tight.

Then when it puts the hammer down all games cam has played in will be forfeited among others.

I am assuming because this has started to be leaked that the NCAA is close to being finished.

Interesting point.

Even if the NCAA takes their time, I think this story may harm cam's heisman hopes. No way people will vote for him thinking he may end up having it stripped away like Reggie bush.

This is what an Auburn friend of mine told me....

He said he spoke with an Auburn Insider...

I've spoken to two very trusted sources on the situation, and both said the following are facts:

* Florida coach Urban Myer, Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen and former Mississippi State quarterback John Bond had a telephone conversation recently to discuss the allegations.

* Meyer had an interest in this story getting out and encouraged Bond to do so.

* Mullen told the two he thought they should move on, let it go, regardless of what was being alleged. Meyer said no, that it needed to get out to the media.

* Kenny Rogers, who is alleged to have sought money, is a desperate individual that was trying to get Cam Newton to go to Mississippi State. Rogers has a checkered past that includes an ongoing investigation by the NFL.

TIFWIW

Wonder why Meyer would care?

IIRC there have been cases where players were held back in allegation deals due to the possibility of the AA making them forfeit the games that the player(s) played in.

Did UNC do this in their case? Or was that concluded before the suspensions?

Aubie should take the "CYA" approach and bench Newton. They will look really bad if any of this mess is true.

they just screwed him out of the heisman. no way they let him near it now. looks like bama is ging to the national title game.

I appreciate Urban Meyer's sleeziness here. Love watching Auburn crumble in the fraudulent joke that they always are.

Also, with their high recruiting classes.....where there is smoke, there is fire.

I have to wonder if any other stories about Auburn recruits/current players come out now that this has surfaced.

I think this may wind up hurting FL more than Auburn. It was reported to the SEC in December. Now that Auburn is doing well and FL is struggling this story comes to light. More than just a coincidence.
