Auburn hires Bruce Pearl

I've never seen so many true fan police congregating in one place in all my life.

Looking at what he's accomplished in his career, it's not surprising a team in a power conference (and yes, with the SEC, I use that term loosely) jumped at the opportunity to hire Bruce Pearl, regardless of what those here who continually present their opinion as fact told us. And Auburn didn't wait around until August to hire him, as we were assured would happen. Mike Slive didn't try to block his entrance into the league as many insisted he would.

Bruce is a winner. Tennessee fans miss the success we experienced while he was here. Auburn fans are lucky to have him. I think he'll win a lot of games there and I agree with those saying he immediately becomes the third-best coach in the league. I don't know how anyone could argue otherwise.

Hell, I miss the excitement Bruce created around our program. And I certainly wouldn't have argued if the university chose to bring him back. But you guys threatening to run out an buy Auburn gear, I hope you're joking. Otherwise you've lost your damn minds. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. :)

i am sorry for all of you because it will be painful to watch if they succeed, but this is fantastic news for sec basketball and anyone who wants to see an elevated level of play in the league.

It's already painful to watch.

over 100 impermissible phone calls and illegal benefits for families of recruits on visits. Lying to the NCAA about knowing his house wasn't his only transgression

100 illegal benefits?...first I've heard of this...how'd you keep the rest of us from finding out?

Oh, so now, because I have been a Vol fan my whole life, I have to watch garbage and like it. That is more Doc, Jeff, and Heather mularky. Just because you are a fan, doesn't mean you can't use the old thinking noodle and have an opinion. I love the Vols. I just get tired of the hog wash that comes off that hill. Don't buy in to the cool aide from there.

Don't you have some Miami Heat and Red Sox gear to be buying?

I've never seen so many true fan police congregating in one place in all my life.

Tennessee plays in an NCAA tournament game in 30 hours and half our so-called fans are rending their clothes over the fact that someone else hired our old coach. For once the True Fan guys are absolutely right.

Sometimes I wonder what this forum would've looked like if the internet existed when Doug Dickey left UT for UF.

OMG TENNESSEE FOOTBALL IS DEAD FOREVER!! :(

I was there for that Fall Quarter. We (students) threw oranges on the field from the upper deck. Cause that was how we rolled before the interwebz.

ummm yeah

- 100 impermissible calls
- illegal benefits to parents

were you aware of those or are they not considered cheating? Is that abundant or a lot in your opinion?

Freak, in all fairness I said I would "have a friend MAIL me an AU bball shirt"....

I said NOTHING about actually BUYING a piece of Auburn gear. Now, with Zo at the helm, it seems I'm just as likely to buy a UT bball shirt... but that's because I'm more of a football fan, especially since Bruce was fired. Regardless, it's a sad day.

here's a fun little fact.

pearl is now only the 6th current head coach in the sec to ever take a team as far as the sweet 16.

8 current sec basketball coaches have never advanced to the sweet 16.

This is the worst news of the season, even worse than the fact that Cuonzo will still be our coach next season. I guess Tennessee is doomed to perpetual mediocrity in men's basketball. We had our chance, I think he would have come back. I don't care about our turn around at the end of the season, I don't care about our "play in" game, and I think that Jimmy Cheek and Dave Hart are an embarrassment at administrating the University of Tennessee.

Dave Hart hired Butch Jones and Dave Serrano. Maike Hamilton hired Coach Martin and Martin was going to have 3 years no matter what and this is his 3rd year. You can't fire a coach before the NCAA tournament begins when you are playing in said tournament. Let it all play out. Dave Hart has proven thus far he can make the right hire when the time is right.

Hart didn't hire Serrano. That deal was actually finalized while Joan Cronan was serving as interim.

And from what has been said, Hamilton deserves a lot of credit for that hire.

Cuonzo will be back next year. He will have to improve next year though, IMO.

Supporting your team doesn't require an around-the-clock exclusive commitment to focus on upcoming games, or at least my true fan handbook doesn't mention it. :)

There are plenty of threads breaking down Iowa, with many posters participating in those and these. Fans can discuss the Auburn hire and still have plenty of time to make their seat on the couch tomorrow night. It's not like, as fans, we have to stay focused this week.

I fully support this team and I'm proud that they finally made the Big Dance. I'll be watching and pulling for them to advance with all my might.

In the meantime, I might watch the Pearl press conference later, just to see how the fans react to him. I probably won't. But if I do, I retain the rights to my fan card.

I would probably have a similar interest if Fulmer took another job. I still have a soft spot for that big guy.

Wonder if all the Bruce Sniffers will become Auburn fans now?

Well, there sure were a lot of Colts fans that mysteriously appeared, after Peyton Manning and the same can be said for mysterious Broncos fans coming out of the wood work, now. Guess, it goes with the favorite sons and daughters, our beloved Vols!!!

Great logic....except the Colts and Broncos don't play against the Vols, and especially aren't in the same league.

Don't watch it. He was greeted at the airport by a mosh pit. I can't imagine watching the press conference will be good for anyone or anything. Maybe watch it a week from now...

Yeah, all 25 fans that showed up.

But that's good, he needs to see what a typical Auburn home crowd is like.

What the heck is the difference? Whether you buy it or have someone else give it to you, you're still taking it.
