Sorry Ras but I’m not going to be petty. The Royal family is pretty much a tourist attraction and has no power.
So all these world leaders meet with the Queen and other members of the Royal Family because they are "fans"? Are you also aware that these Commonwealth Realm countries also have a Governor-General who are basically direct representatives of the monarch?

Like I said. The media might have people believe the Royal Family has no power. That's really not the case.

No, the queen/royal family has no power over the commonwealth countries. Maybe some influence but little if they do.

Like I said, the royal family is a tourist attraction.

The Queen (or King) does have a very real power to dissolve Parliament and call for new elections if they so choose. Hasn't been exercised in a long time, but the ability is there to do so.

These days, dissolving Congress sounds pretty attractive...

I think it’s a bit of both, but the Royals are more figureheads than anything at this point and the real people in power are behind the scenes just as they are here.

Years ago I was in New York and took a tour of NBC studios. Our group was in SNL’s performance area and people were asking how to go about getting tickets for the show. The guide said that rarely do regular people ever get to be in the audience, and that it was reserved for powerful people (he was dead serious). When asked to give an example, he said that the Bush twins had been guests in the audience and had lousy seats in the back because they weren’t that important. This was shortly after 9/11 when the country wasn’t so divided and it wasn’t because their dad was a Republican. His comments have always stayed with me and me wonder who yields more power in the US than a sitting President and his family.

They even took that power away from the Royals.

Never understood the infatuation with the royals and why they are even still allowed. Yearly cost 350M pounds. I would say the same to them as I would a Beto..go get a job

Their power these days comes from the $Billion’s in assets and real estate they control.

Little power actually flows from the “crown” any more.

Why does anyone give a rat's ass about the royal family? So they can trace their lineage a few thousand years. I'll bet there was some little boy rape, incest and slave ownership back there somewhere...

Daniel Andrews’ pandemic Bill: the attack on our democracy

The purpose of the Bill is to insert into the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 provisions which would confer additional, extraordinary, and permanent powers to the state government to enable it to respond to pandemics. In effect, the Public Health and Wellbeing Amendment (Pandemic Management) Bill 2021 gives Daniel Andrews dictatorial powers. It would allow the Premier and his officials to:

  • Impose indefinite lockdowns even if there were no cases of the virus in the country (new sections 165AE & 165AI)
  • Imprison people without trial (new section 165BA(1)(b)
  • Arrest people because of their religion, political beliefs, or ethnic background (new section 165AK(4)).

I have been at an SNL showing and your story is ********. You were lied to. Think about what your claiming. Why would powerful people give a rats ass about a low rated show, on late night tv, that they would be laughing at.

It cost zero and you are entered in a raffle.

That’s what I and everyone else on the tour were told. He said that most people in the audience were comprised of very powerful people. He didn’t say that zero people in the audience were regular joes. Kind of seems like it would have been a dumb story for him to make up. He didn’t come across as boasting or full of hot air.

You are not the life expert that you pretend to be where only you know what other people have experienced. You have a real Napoleon complex.

The Fixed Term Parliament Act of 2011 stripped the crown of it's power to unilaterally dissolve parliament. The crown still dissolves parliament prior to elections but that is just ceremonial.

They can make all laws they want. I'm certain the Royal Family has plenty of power behind the scenes. One can make term limits for politicians but there are no term limits for the people behind the curtain.

The Queen is also the commander in chief of the UK Armed Forces. In Canada and Australia the commander in chief of the armed forces are the Governor-General. The Governor- General is a direct representative of the monarch.

Their hands are also involved in many "charities" and leaders from other countries are always seeking an audience with the Queen and Royal Family. I don't buy it that Trump and Obama and any other president meet with the Queen because they are "fans".

The Queen is the ceremonial CIC of the armed forces, she couldn't order a private to clean a latrine.

I really think you are way overestimating the influence the royal family has on the governments of the commonwealth.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

Same with The Crown and their lack of power and influence...

For a country that I used to think was so tough and brave as Australia due to Crocodile Dundee and Steve Irwin, the Aussies turned out to be weak and freightened little sheep once the actual test came didn’t they?
That's what government does to an unarmed populace. Let them take our guns and our government will absolutely do the same things.

I had hoped one day to take the family to Australia to visit some friends, see some sights... This thread and all the other corroborating information I've seen has totally nuked that desire.
