Available Coaches

I have always thought Gruden was a pipe dream of many on VN.
With his comments he is ready to get back in coaching and helping young people. He MAY be open to discussions. We do have the talent to compete and think.of the impact he would have on recruiting.

If I were Hart I would be gauging interest.

It is the first call Hart has to make when the time comes to make calls. He may tell Hart no, but the call has to be made.

Im all for getting Arkansas coach that they fired. Patreno. Who gives a **** if he likes having sex with hot women??? I dont. I say "Bring Him On to Rocky Top"!

It would be a controversial hire. It would probably end very ugly in a few short years. But, in the process, we would get our football program back. I'd call him once Gruden said no.

When has Petrino ever won a big game? He clearly is a bright offensive mind, but his defenses were terrible at Arkansas and he is an average recruiter. Combine that with all the baggage and there is no way he'll ever coach here.

There are two coaches that are a sure bet, Saban and Spurrier. Spurrier grew up in East Tennessee. Offer him big bucks and he might come. If not, let Dooley rebuild. We don't need another gamble.

Those are strange thoughts, but I'm inclined to agree. We couldn't accept Spurrier after Fulmer, but fans would accept him now. Resurrecting Tennessee might appeal to him. We bet the farm on Dooley, and I'm against running him off to hire another unproven coach. I think Mullen would be accepted also. If he can turn Mississippi State into a good SEC team, which he has, then he should be able to do better at Tennessee.

I don't think Spurrier would ever consider coaching at TN.

Who to hope for but very unlikely:
1. Gruden
2. Caroll

Realistic:
Kirby Smart (Ugh)
Dan Mullen
Charlie Strong
Gus Malzhan
Western KY coach...(UGGHHHH)

Anyone else?

Butch Davis. Proven coach and in the area!! Gruden would be nice but unlikely!! Carroll also unlikely.

As far as smart, maybe but unproven,, Mullen ain't going no where,, the rest you are taken a chance just as you are with smart!!!!

Smart and the Western KY coach would be my last choices on that list

I think he would if he were approached properly, with a good offer. Tennessee never offered Spurrier, as a player or a coach. Coming home might mean a lot to him.

Nobody disagrees that Gruden would not be the dream hire, how can we get him?

EASY--- Money and mo Money. Also. More money for the assistant he wants!! If we don't pay then we are going to littleral PAY,, Pay the man, quick dlcken around and do what SC, Al, OSU, etc did to get and keep coaches,,, money talks and buil**** walks!!!! $$$$$

Have to throw it out there, but there is a coach with 100 more wins than losses and a national title looking for a job.

What about an interim coach until the end of the year? Just getting some thoughts on this. Have to be someone the kids respect...JG maybe?

Why not try and get chavis back as head coach and def cord. That's 2 in 1. And then hire an off cord that can call a run play on 2nd and short or 3rd and 1 instead of slinging it 20 yards down the field to noone. I think I could have won that game last night. We were running the ball extremely well, so why not keep pounding, wear the D down, and then pass when they are exhausted? I don't get it.

Or get coach back from DUKE. I mean duke had not won a game in 3 seasons before him, and now Cutcliffe has them almost bowl eligible. I don't get why we didn't give him the head coaching job.

I thought it was time for Fulmer to go at the time, but in a more respectfull manner of releasing him. Now, I think he could have won that game last night and be a more fired up coach to put TN back on the map. He loves TN and wouldn't be a here now and gone tomorrow coach.

Dooley 47% at Louisiana = Dooley 46% at UT.
Fulmer 72-74% winninng at UT.

Our D needs more caoching and I think Chavis is one of the best in the league and dunno why we let him get away.

On a side note,
I don't see why Gruden is so highly liked. Never coached in college and his winning percentage was not very impressive in the NFL. I just don't see it. Reminds me of a Kiffin deal.. Wasn't Monte part of that Super Bowl win as well... We would need him back as a D coordinator and that's not happening.
