Available Coaches

I get he had a couple bad things take place. I would offer him a 5 years deal with huge clauses to protect UT in his contract. He knows he screwed up and he would not have alot of pull at the bargaining table. I think he would sign a fair deal very quickly. Maybe he does cause an issue at UT at some point 3-4 years from now. I will take that along with winning now, and deal with possible issues 4 years from now. JMO

I'm not arguing that he could win her. I couldn't care less about what he does with his motorcycle or his wiener, but when he leaves....he leaves things in very very bad shape....everywhere that he has been. We just need a solid contingency plan.

so Gruden wins a Super Bowl with a team that Dungy could not, yet Dungy deserves the ring?

Gruden would win big here. He would out coach everybody but Saban and Spurrier, and he would put our talent level to the point that we could compete.

If the move is made I want a proven slam dunk no brainer hire! I dont want anyone of the Saban tree. I think the Auburn fans poisoned it in retaliation for Mr Updyke!

Gruden would outcoach Spurrier and Saban too.

I think it's a pipe dream he ever comes, but he was a much better coach than Saban or Spurrier in the NFL and I think he would surpass them in college too.

For me I don't have the ethical issue that others on the board have. My problem is that once he leaves...there is always a huge mess to clean up. It is very similar to what used to happen with Lou Holtz.

I'm with Lexvol on this.

Don't really care who Petrino slept with. I care that the guy has absolutely no loyalty to anyone, and will pack up and leave the moment someone offers him $1 more than us. And he won't care what shape he leaves the program in.

We already had one guy like that (Kiffin). We don't need another.

If we're going to go with coaches with baggage, I'd rather have Butch Davis than Petrino.

Gruden would bring instant success on recruiting trail and if givin proper assistants would bring quick results,

We need a big name to land elite talent, all these top talent is interested in is getting to the NFL, Diamonds in the rough most of the time don't pan out.

i Have not read all the posts, but why not Tommy Tuberville. Proven in this league and can beat a ranked opponent.

Thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten which coach that was.

remember what happened the last time he faced Saban?

also, hasn't really done much of anything since 2007 or so. Losing season last year.

Bringing back Fulmer would be like the Redskins bringing back Gibbs. It feels nice, but is not based in reality.

Serious question.
How would bringing back the man that was responsible for the demise of the program feel nice in any way?

Haahahaha. Thats laughable. Spurrier & Saban are easily 2 of the top college coaches of our era and beyond. Don't get caught up in delusional land.

I say most of us will agree, there's a 90% chance Dooley is gone at the end of the season. I supported Dools until last night. last night was the breaking point for obvious reasons. So unless some miracle happens where he beats Bama or South Carolina, here are the 'Big 5' coaches imo.

1. Jon Gruden

What more is there to say? We throw 4-5 million at him and imo we have a legit shot. Its been said for a while that he has an itch to coach again but not in the NFL. Him having slight ties to UT and it being a top job, we try hard enough, he will come. Just my opinion. Jon Gruden may not be the next Nick Saban, but he will win here, and he will do it his first year regardless of who comes back and who doesn't.

2. Pete Carrol

This one is a bit of a stretch in my opinion but I don't believe its impossible. Some could even blame Carrol for starting this mess, as if he never left USC kiffin would still be here and we'd probably be pretty good. However, as unlikely as it is, there's no denying Carrol left USC to avoid the sanctions that was about to hit, perhaps he's just waiting on a big College job. We can hope.

3. Bobby Petrino

Off the feild issues aside, we could offer 2 million and be cheap and still get a hell of a coach. He'll sign anything to get a job. If he won at Louisville and Arkansas, he sure as hell could win UT.

4. Chirs Petersen

This guy is a great coach. He should get his shot at a BCS program. Whether he wants a new job or not, we have to make the call. I believe we could win, and win big with this guy. And for goodness sake forget about his religion, it has nothing to do with football.

5. Dan Mullen

Yeah the coach that just beat us. This was a toss up between Mullen and Strong, but I think Mullen may just be the overall better coach. Mullen has done well at what is typically a SEC west bottom feeder. He has beaten teams with way more talent than his. This should be out last resort offer.
