I say most of us will agree, there's a 90% chance Dooley is gone at the end of the season. I supported Dools until last night. last night was the breaking point for obvious reasons. So unless some miracle happens where he beats Bama or South Carolina, here are the 'Big 5' coaches imo.
1. Jon Gruden
What more is there to say? We throw 4-5 million at him and imo we have a legit shot. Its been said for a while that he has an itch to coach again but not in the NFL. Him having slight ties to UT and it being a top job, we try hard enough, he will come. Just my opinion. Jon Gruden may not be the next Nick Saban, but he will win here, and he will do it his first year regardless of who comes back and who doesn't.
2. Pete Carrol
This one is a bit of a stretch in my opinion but I don't believe its impossible. Some could even blame Carrol for starting this mess, as if he never left USC kiffin would still be here and we'd probably be pretty good. However, as unlikely as it is, there's no denying Carrol left USC to avoid the sanctions that was about to hit, perhaps he's just waiting on a big College job. We can hope.
3. Bobby Petrino
Off the feild issues aside, we could offer 2 million and be cheap and still get a hell of a coach. He'll sign anything to get a job. If he won at Louisville and Arkansas, he sure as hell could win UT.
4. Chirs Petersen
This guy is a great coach. He should get his shot at a BCS program. Whether he wants a new job or not, we have to make the call. I believe we could win, and win big with this guy. And for goodness sake forget about his religion, it has nothing to do with football.
5. Dan Mullen
Yeah the coach that just beat us. This was a toss up between Mullen and Strong, but I think Mullen may just be the overall better coach. Mullen has done well at what is typically a SEC west bottom feeder. He has beaten teams with way more talent than his. This should be out last resort offer.
