'22 AZ WR Kyler Kasper (Oregon commit)

Yea, first it’s an ego thing. Second, would be a huge NCAA flag
Flag for what, though?

I mean if an NiL deal paid a kid 100k. Then he pays his scholarship as a walkon. Afaik that's legal.

Though I agree with Marco it's very unlikely to ever happen anyway. It would take someone to WAYYY overpay a kid.

Hyatt can go to the best schools in the country on scholarship but y’all really think there’s a chance he’s gonna choose to be a PWO bc his family likes the Vols AND you think it’s gonna be *his* idea.

Lol no. Just no.
Can you just not interpret what you read or are you just ..... I will leave that alone. No ONE is saying that is going to happen. It was a hypothetical. And yes it certainly could happen although very doubtful. You are making a mountain out of a mole hill hypothetical.

You can’t induce through NIL. I’ve yet to see a high 3 star and especially a 4 star be a walk-on. It would raise eyebrows for sure

Lol. We literally just did it with Nico. But in a smart way. The Spyre people aren't dummies. It just can't be in writing.

Or do like BYU. Walkons get xx dollars..

Plus most kids can't get deals until they're in college anyway. It all takes a bit of trust. "Come here and you'll get an NiL deal in ____ range and you can pay for your scholly, and a lot more".

It's completely legal these days. I just don't see any kid doing it without a vast premium being paid. I mean, just because school A is offering a 4* to walkon...well other schools are still offering them nil too... plus scholly...minus the ego damage. You'd REALLY have to be throwing dollars around to pull it off imo.

They way "it's completely legal these days" sounded in my head made you sound like a drug dealer to me

Let me know when a top 200 player decides to be a preferred walkon over taking a scholarship elsewhere. That’s the day I’ll admit this is a realistic idea. Until then, don’t compare a kid being a preferred walkon vs UTC to a kid like Kyler Kasper. People tried to say the same thing about the Berry twins.
Well Z ,I doubt anyone would know ......that would not be advertised .Fact is it would be advertised as a scholly until a space came available.

Is that because you think he's better than Tate or that UT isn't in good position with him?

Personally I think Kasper is the best out of any that have been discussed here. He is very quick off the ball and aggressive both in plays on the ball and blocking. I would call Mizell #2. Only based on highlight videos of course. Tate is obviously a really good WR but those guys look better. To me, Rogers looks at least as good on video.

Kasper looks better to me, yes.

I know all this, but show me one highly rated player that came in as a walk on?

Show me a school capable of handing out 6 figure NIL deals that may be looking for a creative way to get around some scholarship issues caused by a previous coach. This is all BRAND NEW. Someone’s going to be the first to do a lot of different things.

Do you even Mickey's bro...

Navy Schuler gave up a scholarship to walk on at UT. His NIL probably has more value here than at his previous stop. There was at least speculation that NIL opportunities helped drive that decision. There were other really good walk-ons in our last class right after Spyre cranked up. May or may not be related but that model sure fits the data.

I agree it works for borderline 3 stars. I have actually posted plenty about how we got some high quality PWOs. But I don’t think you’ll see highly rated players take that option. Did you know there’s a lot of in facility benefits that scholarship players get that non scholarship players don’t?

You would never tie it to a particular school. Ostensibly, they could sign a kid to an NIL deal focused on East TN businesses... and have to pay up when the kid landed at ETSU.

The deal can't "say it" but nothing prevents a deal from having a geographical element or even focused on the player's NIL "value" particular businesses.

Honestly, I don't think working around these things is as hard as many imagine.

I agree and that’s how you have to do it. I guess I was interpreting the post I was replying to differently.
