Baby Boomers U.S. Worst Generation?

The money isn't there for the boomers. If the government spent their SS money while representing them (i.e. their electives) on government programs, and left a bunch of IOUs, then...

No, that's the younger generation's money, not theirs. They spent theirs.

Imagine if you just filled up your 401k with IOUs that your grandkids will pay back. That's what the SS fund is. And the boomers have controlled the electorate pretty much their whole lives.

And there is the root of your problem. No one controls the electorate. The system is broken and the gov't represents itself at the expense of the people. You only have a few choices:

  1. Crooked people who run and get elected.
  2. Honest people who run and become crooked once in the system.
  3. Honest people who will never get elected.
  4. Honest people who get elected, try to remain honest, and get ejected from the system for trying to do so.

Get angry at the system, not at the people who have been fleeced by the system.

Baby Boomers: The Selfish Generation | SENTRY JOURNAL

In addition to unfunded entitlements, the dollar has lost value, debt increased, college and healthcare costs skyrocketed, two wars, outsource of US jobs, etc.

Thoughts?

Not only did the "greatest generation" raise these selfish brats, but they also were also directly responsible for government taking a bigger role as a redistributor of wealth.

My point is you can't blame any one generation more than their predecessors. We're all in this together.

If it's any consolation, I never raised any brats, spoiled or not. Also, I was never without a job from the time I graduated at U.T. until I recently retired. I never took any benefits from the government until SS and Medicare, and was never in jail or in the court system. No disability, no food stamps, no nothing. I have been a responsible taxpayer
( property, sales, income, capital gains, gasoline, etc.) for almost 45 years. We aren't all useless pieces of crap. I just pay for the useless pieces of crap.

Don't be so sensitive. I was taking your side and mocking the premise of the article.

Not that great, but I try to keep that in the off topic thread. I updated a day or 2 ago. Thanks for asking, though.

Coming to a nursing home near you...

In Japan, the elderly are committing more crimes than teenagers

Parallel to this trend has been the curious rise in Japan's elderly crime rate, which doubled between 2003 and 2013, according to Bloomberg. In 2011, the number of crimes committed by the elderly was six times what it was 20 years prior. Even as murder rates declined in Japan, homicides carried out by the elderly were rising.

Some 70 percent of the elderly crimes, according to a government white paper written in 2012, were acts of shoplifting by impoverished pensioners. A 2012 editorial in the Japan Times said the surge in elderly crime "primarily [stems] from bad economic conditions," exacerbated by welfare cuts as more and more of Japan's population enter their twilight years.

The older Boomers were the first demo to challenge the established policies of their elders. Segregation, sexism, and pollution would be much more prevalent without their politics, but the country would probably be wealthier and the disadvantaged would be in deeper ****. Millennials don't realize that they get to run their yappers without getting a beat down because of the Boomers blazing the trail for them.

Obamacare is not an entitlement. Everyone was already able to get free care once their condition became bad enough. Obamacare is the opposite of an entitlement in the sense that it requires people now to pay in to the system that already guaranteed them service.

Obamacare is welfare not an entitlement. Entitlements are earned as in SS, money paid in gets returned with interest. Obamacare is another way to give people free stuff with the huge subsidies (not debating the need only the way its paid). Actually a person with low income can get a BCBS policy with a $500 deductible 80% for $100 per month after subsidy. If you have a job the exact policy costs $800 per month. Who pays that subsidy, young healthy people who must pay 600 to 800 per month with a $5,000 deductible.

Actually it is another government Ponzi scheme.

You don't feel the baby boomers are the worst generation? I'd love to hear why if that's the case.
Every generation goes thru the same old ****. Act all irresponsible while you are young and stupid, then different when you grow up. You'll understand someday. Right now I would say that the millenials are probably the worst since they do nothing but want more entitlements. Fire away

The big difference I see in the Baby Bombers and Millenials is both have/had dreams. The Baby Boomers worked to achieve their dreamss, the Millenials think the world owns them their dreams

There are some very good millenials, however the majority are the laziest creatures God ever put on Earth.

You're right. The millenials if they are so altruistic, should be wanting to pay 90% of their income in taxes to fix the problem. And the deficit has accelerated only recently to the degree that we now see it. Of course I guess the BBs are responsible for the out of control consumer debt that is strangling everybody too? gtfo. I have zero debt and pay way more than my fair share of taxes. You're welcome.
