I disagree. I think Dooley is a very good coach. Just maybe not under the circumstances at UT. I think he does well elsewhere.
I hate to break it to you, but you're wrong and I'm not just talking about gameday. He does have some good qualities but they are overshadowed by the rest. We will have to see if he learned anything from this experience.

Gruden was never personally contacted by UT. "Feelers" were sent out to his agent, his agent contacted Gruden, Gruden refused an interview. End of story. It went no further than 3 phone calls. Anything else was purely made up.

Did Jimmy Hyams tell you this?

This is only my 3rd post here, so you are welcome to take it with a grain of salt.

I lurked forever, but never posted because I didn't want to be seen as a "me, too" member.

I have what I think are 2 independent "sources" (I now hate that word) that are at equal depth within UT football. I'd speak to person A and get one story, then speak to person B and get a totally different story. The reports would sometimes be similar, but that was a rarity. I trust both of these folks...and that they were just relaying a message (albeit an erroneous one).

That leads me to believe that the entire AD was in a constant panic which led to crappy communications. Hart should have had more control over it and he didn't. His leadership is very questionable after this.

I have gathered from both people that Gruden was in play up until the near end. He just wanted too much out of the program with no risk to him. At the very end, his most loyal boosters folded on him. To grant him his wishes would have put the football program at risk.

Like I said, that is what I gathered.

I can believe that. And I need to say, I am glad they folded. Thank you "Jim". I have said it before, but I am glad we got CBJ instead of Gruden. I think he will be the better coach and leader of young athletes in the long run. I really do not believe now that Gruden is a good fit for a College Coach.

Key word. This implies that some of them weren't fos. There was a lot more to the Gruden situation than will ever formally be recognized.

According to... Who? The same people who are admittedly FOS?

Just because you want there to be more to the "situation" doesn't mean there is. Ever heard of Occam's razor?

Sir,

I think you got it. Also think CJG thought with the constant turn downs on the job by others, that they would come back to him and give him all he wanted. Then, CBJ came into play and the rest is history.

DTO, gman, et al

I appreciate your input and believe that you were sincere. Obviously things did not turn out as we wanted. As to why, I believe one need look no further than the post of LWS when he stated that "big jim always wins." There is a definite thread of commonality that runs right up to the current future ex coach and I hope that pious sob enjoys every home game with the other 50k fans that will be in Neyland.

LWS posted it may actually be happening when all heck was breaking out that last Friday. He was always at 5%. So, that was strange.

Looking at it as a whole, I think you are right.

According to a 25 year veteran sports reporter with three very credible sources. One being a member of the AD that he didn't even use in his story. One being Jim Haslam. The other being a coach that was going to be on Gruden's staff. It was widely known that he was contacting potential staff members. Sounds like there was a lot more to it than three phone calls and an instant rejection. But keep hating on the only people that were able to bring a glimmer of sun shine into the miserable grey that is UT football at the present.

Cheek will not be here by next football season.

That would be great if true. Cheek & the liberal arts chick needs to be canned and escorted from the UT campus immediately. Just wish they would have been gone before this coaching hire.

And then, if someone had a different opinion from the know-it-all, he said things like this:

Once the fantasy world comment came out I was pretty much numb to gruden. Would still have liked to had him but the comment by his agent really rubbed me the wrong way.

Hey, babyavi, remember that one time you said that airport pic of Gruden was from Knoxville and that a grad student had taken it and you had seen it on his camera or something like that? Remember?

Remember when you can say whatever you want in that thread and it is believable?

Yea.....Jokes on you guys.

Oh, you were just joking? I didn't realize that. Yeah, that was hilarious. I guess. Wait, maybe that was kind of douchey. Yeah, now that I think about it, I'm positive.

By the way, I don't think many people believed it was TYS, so the joke kind of fell flat.
