Bad News about Tobias Harris...

It's amazing the people that are trying to condone this behavior.

He's a senior in HS, not in 2nd grade.

There is no justifying the temper tantrum he threw. It is beyond ridiculous.

What will he do next year if Cousins stays at UK and dominates him? Sit on the bench and suck his thumb? Not drink his juice box? Take his ball and go home?

Too many are mistaking passion with foolishness.

It was foolish yes, but he is a kid that hasn't lost this year. He let his passion get the best of him. Cousins is gone, but if he did stay, Harris would not be guarding him. Up to this point he has said all the right things. This will not happen at UT.

He is just a high school kid. I guess when he gets to UT they will school him on things. Calm down. I think it sounds like Big Cuz at Kentucky and he is pretty good.

He may have had a game where someone like cuz was holding with one hand and elbowing with the other and the refs weren't calling it. It gets worse when you have to play Kentucky. I like the attitude that winning isn't everything. It's the only thing!!!!!!!!!

He's got to rise above it. Basketball's a physical game.

Most of the best NBA players don't shake hands after a loss. At least he cares If he wins or loses.

Sorry but I have to agree with Voldaddy and the rest, his behavior wasn't "passionate" it was immature and stupid. He pulls this stuff at UT and he'll deserve just as much criticism as we throw Cousin's way. Just because he's one of "ours" doesn't make the behavior any more tolerable, and you can't just suddenly start spinning it into "passion".

Agree 100%

Passion and the desire to win I'm all for but the whole 1st grader I didn't get what I wanted, I'm mad about it and I'm gonna let everybody know it tantrum was way over the top.

Hopefully he will learn from this, I'm pretty certain he will, he's probably already gotten the third degree from the people that matter the most anyway.

….in the childish behavior from BOTH the Harris boys tonight, especially Tobias. Can’t say I’m surprised because the father is a fool, and a broker. The game was over in the midle of the 3rd quarter, and ended about an hour later with all the fouling, so WHY did it take Haris so long to check his emotions??
He came out for his runner-up medal and threw it towards the scorers table then recieved a huge round of boos from not just CBA fans, but anyone else not wearing any HHHW gear. Before that, in the “shake hands” line, he wouldn’t shake any CBA players hands, including his AAU teammate Cameron Ritter!?
Then when being named to the All-Tournament team, he wouldn’t even shake any other members hands!? WHAT A F’IN BABY!!
Bottom line is they just got beat by a well coached team that plays TOGETHER on both ends of the floor.
ps—can anyone explain to me how a kid (#23-Sledge) that lives in Newark, NJ plays for a public school on L.I.??? He “lives with the Harris family” I was told!? Isn’t that illegal?

Troll

OK... First, I think the article put the least negative spin possible on the situation, they really did handle the situation pretty cleanly and I'm impressed by that. My take is I understand and I want passion. Maybe that's getting angry and slamming the ball to the ground.

But throwing yourself to the ground and kicking your feet? The disrespect of ripping off the medal and throwing it down on the court?

I have faith that CP will make it abundantly clear that sort of thing is over and done and left in high school. Can you imagine that on Sports Center as a representation of Tennessee Sports? He's immature and CP will be working from day one to give him some poise. If he's good playing without some degree of discipline and respect for his opponent, think how good he might be with some.

Personally if he was my child, I might have made the article for jerking a knot in his tail the minute he got off the court. Criminy. But he's just a kid with a phenomenal chance in front of him. Let's give CP a chance to work on him.

I like a passionate player who plays with a ton of fire, but I can't stand a player who acts immature and childish. He is just a senior in high school who has been told all his life that he is the best player around, been treated like he is the best player around, and well was the best player around. It won't take long on a D-I campus with daddy Bruce to take some air out of his head and the edge off of his attitude. He will always be a passionate player and I'm glad. He is one that will be hated by everyone not wearing Tennessee orange, but the more they hate him the better he is and the more we will love him.

yes! afterall,Bruce has such a good record with team discipline!

I think right now he is upset.. but I think in the next few months he will be embarrased, and regret what he did in his last high school game ever. I think he will use this as motivation to crush in college.

Upset with the call, Harris ran around the court and over to the scorer’s table where he slammed the ball and fell to the ground and kicked his feet. Hills West head coach Bill Mitaritonna signaled for his player to calm down, but it was too late, officials charged Harris with a technical for his fifth and final foul.

I'm sorry, but this really sounds funny to me, and I can just picture this in my mind.
Hopefully he got this out of his system though and this never happens again.

I believe a large number on this board needs to grow up also. Any action is acceptable if he is your player. Disgusting

I always remember reading how mature Harris is and how far ahead he is in that category. Guess he still has further to go. I'm sure CBP will nip it in the bud.

Over-zealous passion and immaturity/stupidity often go hand-in-hand. Serena Williams' outburst at the line judge at the US Open last summer was purely out of passion. She still looked like a complete idiot who had no self control. Just because you are passionate for a game and want nothing more than to win a champions, that doesn't excuse you from respecting the game, your opponents, the officials, your own team, etc.

Yes he did go to far, but I love his passion for the game and how he hates to lose. He will learn from it.

I agree. The kids got passion and intensity, but he's still a kid. Got a lot of room to grow up, but I think he'll be fine at UT

There is nothing worse than playing in your last high school game, especially with something so big on the line

If this was Demarcus Cousins in high school, y'all would be saying what a moron and immature person he was, but since it's our recruit, it's "passion."

Harris was way out of line and acted like a child. This young man needs to check that attitude and gain some composure, otherwise, he's going to be eaten alive in the SEC. Hypocrisy really runs rampant on this board...

He has a huge growing (emotionally) experience in front of him. He will be fine. However, I called a lot of basketball over the years. I found this activity more in supposed adult leagues than I did calling the high schools. It goes way beyond passion for the game. Got to question the role models kids have now.

Gents:

I witnessed the episode first-hand and you should be concerned:

(1) His dad is a piece of work in the sense that he's raising his sons with an attitude of "you're wonderful. What happened was (fill in the blank)'s fault." That's not setting the Harris boys up for successful adult lives.

(2) Tyler Harris isn' a prospect, so don't waste you time dwelling on him. He's heading to prep school, where he will reclassify as a junior and pick up an extra year of fine-tuning. (he and Tobias each started school a year earlier than most kids). But he needs significant work just to be a mid-major D-1 player. As it stands now he's a three-minutes-a-game player at best as a soph or junior in the SEC.

(3) Tobias is a tremendous talent, but this weekend wasn't the first time the maturity and self-control issue surfaced. There was stuff bubbling just below the surface for much of the last three years (a factor in transferring twice, I'm pretty sure).

He embarrassed himself and his school on Sunday. Pearl's life has been tough enough since the suspensions in January and he doesn't need a loose cannon.

Everyone down your way will be much better served if someone reads him the riot act on Sept. 1 and makes it clear the Vols are quite willing to move on without him if/when he becomes a liability.

Disgraceful behavior--let's not sugarcoat it because he's a Vol. Falling to the floor and kicking your feet? Throwing your runnerup medal on the floor? Sounds like another "star" who won't be easy for Pearl to manage.

Sorry, I may be a jerk, but I read the thread title and my heart dropped, then I read the thread post and was relieved!

I like a kid that doesn't want the praise of an individual award! Screw that individual crap! He wanted a Championship for his team........period. I want someone with that passion and desire for WINNING at the University of Tennessee! I agree, he did go a tad overboard by throwing the thing and not shaking hands. Heck, he's just following in the paths of Lebron James. Lebron done the same thing after losing in the playoffs. same difference, but people still hold him up? why? bc he has a passion for winning and so does Tobias! Cant wait for him to get to Tennessee.
not bad news by any means, I LOVE IT.
