Bad News about Tobias Harris...

You know.....I'm sure there was a big deal about John Wall being cited for breaking and entering in high school. Did that bother Kentucky fans when he's winning? um, no! lol

What is worse?

Tobias Harris throwing an indi award bc it wasnt a championship trophy

vs.

John Wall breaking and entering bc ???

Sorry, I may be a jerk, but I read the thread title and my heart dropped, then I read the thread post and was relieved!

I like a kid that doesn't want the praise of an individual award! Screw that individual crap! He wanted a Championship for his team........period. I want someone with that passion and desire for WINNING at the University of Tennessee! I agree, he did go a tad overboard by throwing the thing and not shaking hands. Heck, he's just following in the paths of Lebron James. Lebron done the same thing after losing in the playoffs. same difference, but people still hold him up? why? bc he has a passion for winning and so does Tobias! Cant wait for him to get to Tennessee.
not bad news by any means, I LOVE IT.

Lebron James simply walked off the court. He didn't act like a moron and throw medals around and roll around on the ground like a child.

James not shaking hands after a heart wrenching loss in the NBA, not the high school state basketball tournament, was minor. This kid's temper tantrum is a problem.

Perhaps it is because I'm old but I really hate to see this type of thing from kids these days. I'm a KY fan and watching Cousins act like a baby sometimes just drives me nuts. I'm also a big UT fan and when the gun/drugs issue happened it stung really badly.

I know they are young but more was expected of me at that age and I expect more from my kids. I guess it doesn't matter much as they'll go on to make their millions of dollars and can act however they want but it sure depresses me a little.

It's funny you mention Cousins. How many people on this board were ripping his "childish" behavior earlier this year? Plenty. And there's not much of an age difference between the two.

But one is a Vol commitment, so obviously that makes it OK for him.

It's amazing the people that are trying to condone this behavior.

He's a senior in HS, not in 2nd grade.

There is no justifying the temper tantrum he threw. It is beyond ridiculous.

What will he do next year if Cousins stays at UK and dominates him? Sit on the bench and suck his thumb? Not drink his juice box? Take his ball and go home?

Too many are mistaking passion with foolishness.

The way he acted was no big deal just emotion. I also don't have a problem with the way Cousins acts so I'm obviously not just saying it because he's coming to UT.

You do really have to love the fact that he plays with soo much passion. Not saying that the way he acted, or reacted was good, but I guess he's just not used to losing. He'll be fine as long as he gets rid of the bad attitude when he loses a game, and I suspect that is something that CBP will take care of very quickly if it happens here.

This is getting blown out of proportion. He's a kid. He's immature. He'll grow up.

As someone close to tobias and the Harris family I can tell you that Tobias know's he let his emotions get the best of him, and made a huge mistake reacting like that to a foul call. Yes the refs were HORRIBLE, but thats not an excuse.

Some of you are exaggerating his actions, especially the end of the game.
The team was ill prepared, but the only thing that stings more than losing a championship game is not even getting to play in it.

Unlike some of you people who couldn't wait for a little bit of negativity for the opportunity to bash the kid or his family. There isnt an anger management problem brewing, please save it.He is simply an animated player who plays with a lot of passion.

I will tell the real Vol fans that the reason you have heard nothing but good things about tobias thus far is because he is a GREAT kid, who comes from a great family.

Regardless of what people want to say about his father, Mr. Harris has done what was best for his children and that may not always made everyone happy. Take a look at the number of major D1 talent that comes out of Long Island regularly, and then tell me if its a mistake that Mr. Harris chooses to go against the mold.

I'm sure UT fans don't want tobias spending too much time learning how to be a better loser and dont worry he wont

There is no excuse for this type behavior. With the score of this game, it is stupid to act this way. They were beaten by a better team, obviously. This behavior needs to be "nipped in the bud" as Barney would say as soon as he arrives at UT. This is not passion, but acting like a spoiled brat. I, for one, am very concerned about this behavior.

Read NYTERPS34 post. Maybe that will make you feel a little bit better.

Some people in here are just ridiculous. You're acting as if the kid punched another player or even an opposing fan (IE Demarcus Cousins) or threatened someone like the refs. Cry about it more - he had one freakin' emotional out burst in his last game of high school basketball.

Ding. Ding. Ding. We have a winner.

His behavior, if true, is down right childish and unacceptable in any level of any sport.

This. If this is what really happened, then it's pathetic. I don't care if it's his last game. However, most stuff on the internet is exaggerated so it might not have been near as bad.

You can keep that yankee negativity up there in NY, we will welcome Tobias with open arms!!!!! It could have been something that happened during the game, who knows, but this is the first negative thing I've seen written about TB. Every interview I've seen with him or article I've read, he is seems genuine and exudes class for a HS student. Your probably a jilted Syracuse fan! V.B bring that game to Knoxville young man!!!!!:rock:

You realize Tobias is also a "Yankee" too then right?

The Civil War is over.

Guys, he probably has had a bad road like most inner city kids. I am not sure but if that's the case, then what do you expect? I.e. Demarcus Cousins. It was his last game, he was the star and didn't take his team to the top. Give him a break.

and to compare his emotions and actions consistently to Demarcus Cousin's is laughable at best. Dude is on a whole nother level.

^This.

If this guy was a UK commit, we'd be making so much fun of him right now.

Sorry but I have to agree with Voldaddy and the rest, his behavior wasn't "passionate" it was immature and stupid. He pulls this stuff at UT and he'll deserve just as much criticism as we throw Cousin's way. Just because he's one of "ours" doesn't make the behavior any more tolerable, and you can't just suddenly start spinning it into "passion".

finally...

I'm not going to turn this into a rip job on dad or on you, but two of your points call attention to an obvious blunder.

If Mr. Harris was interested in doing what was best for his children, he could have left them at their first high school and allowed them to grown up alongside their friends and build a title team (they were on the verge when Tobias was a soph).

The first transfer to L.I. Lutheran was OK in my mind because that introduced them to a higher caliber of H.S. basketball, where they thrived. They beat Brandon Triche (now the PG at Syracuse) and a great 6-9 frosh center last year for the Federation title.

The L.I. Lutheran program has produced many college-caliber players and has more in the current pipeline.

But for the second year in a row the boys changed schools, returning to HHH West, where there is very little of that rich tradition of great Long Island basketball that produces college talent.

And that's a major "10-4" regarding the team being ill prepared Sunday. They were also ill-prepaerd a day earlier against Rochester East, which was inferior at all five positions and still came within three seconds of forcing overtime.

HHH West was not the best environment for the Harris brothers to grow on the court, so I'm not buying the idea "Mr. Harris has done what was best for his children."

I was there. It was bad.

Not fatal bad. But bad enough that I would be worried a little bit next year.

:shakehead: Like a few have said earlier, if this had been a UK or any other school recruit, this behavior would have been looked at as a problem. Seriously? Passion for the game?

Thanks. All the interviews I've heard with him, he seems like a nice kid. I know he's a competitor, but he's also a kid. Even though I do think there is some exaggeration in this instance, I still don't think it's a problem with this kid.
