Baltimore Unrest

I cannot believe that someone would take a great moment of that Mom berating her kid -- something that in the context of what was happening was great and necessary and to be applauded-- and use it to assail the mom's choices 18 years ago so as to reinforce your petty, racial stereotypes.

Truly the most pathetic thing I've seen here, ever. Just can't celebrate and congratulate her for doing the right thing now, can you? You just have to find a way to make it about another black woman having kids in other than Ozzie and Harriett circumstances. Jerk.

That's pretty much it.

Assaulting her adult son was the right thing to do? Very Progressive of you

20 years ago it wasn't considered assault. It was called tough love and discipline.

Sometimes changing methods in discipline are not always considered an improvement.

Sometimes changing methods in discipline are not always considered an improvement.

Sometimes teenagers don't care about talking things out and listening to reasonable and rational discussion. Sometimes teenagers only listen to getting their @ss kicked. I was one of those teenagers.

Humans simply don't evolve past this in a matter of 20 years and some legal structuring.

They just interviewed a gang member chanting "every life matters".

Just because you are part of a gang doesn't mean you don't think life has value. Some people join gangs specifically for protection. A lot of them live by a code not to put guns on regular civilians. Only people that are "in the game" are allowed to be targets.

Gangs are not good, but they also aren't declaring war on police. Not sure if everyone saw this:

Most gangs usually start as a form of community protection. They rarely stay that way for very long.

WTF? Ever hear of drive byes?

WTF? Ever hear of drive byes?

Are you kidding?

In no way am I saying all gangs follow this code. Also, if you do a drive-by on a stash house and it happened to be bring your daughter to work day, that's an accident. The target was somebody in the game.

Ok, just collateral damage then. I don't expect to see you criticize anymore drone strikes then.

You're trying so hard to nail me, but you don't got me.

In no way am I condoning collateral damage. Obama kills innocent people with drones? I don't think that necessarily means he doesn't value life. A gang member accidentally shoots a civilian? That doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't value life. In both cases they are doing wrong.

See how consistent that is?

You don't value life when you open up on a house that might have a rival gang member in it or just start blasting away when there are obvious unarmed children all around.

The situation has been rather calm the last few nights, with the exception of a few scattered incidents. I hope as long as the curfew is still in place and LEO presence is still in the area, that any increase in unlawful activity is at a minimum.

Unfortunately, the general local public interest in this case may feel like it's the beginning of a cover up and start another "hand's up, don't shoot" story. Which, we all have seen that if something is repeated enough times then it soon becomes the truth.
