Baltimore Unrest

So here is what we know:

* Gray suffered no physical injury during the arrest per reprots
* Whatever happened occurred in the van
* Prisoner in the van with Gray said the driver was not driving crazy
* Prisoner also said he heard Gray trying to intentionally injure himself
* Van driver had to stop the van and put Gray in full restraints after he became irate
* Now we hear that there was a head injury that matched a bolt in the prison van

It sounds like to me these cops are going to get off.

Unless the cop slammed his head into that bolt. And if the cops get off. Well. It won't be good

Interesting.

WTF did it take so long to come up with this story? If this is the real story, it should have been shared right away. I understand if there was more officer involvement they'd be careful about sharing information and incriminating an innocent officer, but it sounds like there was no officer involvement at all.

It makes no sense that it would take this long to give the public this answer.

They might have had some other departments or agencies review it prior. I think I heard that the DOJ was going to review the findings prior to release.

You obviously have had little interaction with the government.

Go to your nearest post office at around 11am and mail a letter..you will understand..

What does this even mean? Here's my guess:

The police chief can't come forward with evidence that could potentially placate rioters and exonerates his officers because government is inefficient?

This is absurd to me, and it's why I'm complaining.

Because the town is 65% black....

Jk no racist.

It means that there are steps involved in an investigation. Dot the T's and cross the i's type of thing. The mayor just cant sassy like snap her fingers and make a report materialize out of thin air. Its Baltimore..the cops have WAY more going on that some dead dude in a van. There are steps and procedures that need to be followed. And lets not forget that this mayor is woefully incompetent and probably asked for multiple reviews of the initial investigation hoping to pin it on anyone but the dumb ass who was jumping around a moving van.

This isn't a drive through at a McDonalds..

Ah, i can hear the cadence now....

"It wasn't a bolt. We must revolt!"

"Police told a lie. Now they gonna die!"

"The bolt doesn't fit. Time to tear up some ****!"

If the facts do not fit the rioters preconceived notions, facts will not placate them.

"Hands up, don't shoot!"

What a surprise! More sweeping generalizations about entire groups of people.

It's like you think not one protester/rioter would be dissuaded from protesting/rioting by evidence. Please don't tell me you think that.

This is nonsense. If the cops have a valid story from the beginning, they tell the chief and he tells the public. In no way would this interfere with the investigation.

Everyone's BS meter should be sounding off right now, and if this is the real story, then we need to be angry that they kept it from us.

Mob mentality (vigilante mentality) isnt really known for critical thinking, logic or reason.

A few individuals might be persuaded but not the whole group.

This is absurd. It's been 11 days.

This isn't CSI where they solve everything in an hour.

Question: Aren't all police cars and paddy wagons equipped with surveillance cameras for their own protection as well. If so, why hasn't anyone come out with a video of Gray being put in this vehicle?

Just asking.

fyp

Whatever the number is, every bit helps. Whatever the number is, it's a good reason to share information with the public.

Dont think so. But we are headed that direction.

I'm not saying they need to solve the incident immediately, I am saying they should share information that helps exonerate the officers. This is information that could have been shared day 1. When the headline reads "the PD has no explanation" people are going to get stirred up. Why would they not say what happened in this case?

Why is everyone so opposed to this notion of them sharing the officer's story?

Significant is subjective and relative.

Agree with you on sharing information. But, they have to be crtain of the info before release. If they wrongly make statement that is disproven, or they backtrack, it will be worse than no statement at all.

You're trying so hard to nail me, but you don't got me.

In no way am I condoning collateral damage. Obama kills innocent people with drones? I don't think that necessarily means he doesn't value life. A gang member accidentally shoots a civilian? That doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't value life. In both cases they are doing wrong.

See how consistent that is?

Gangs are some of the most peaceful pro-life organizations around

Why is everyone so opposed to this notion?

You don't share information in an ongoing investigation. You wait until the investigation is completed and release it all.

Something might turn up in a later piece of evidence that contradicts what an officer may have said. If you released that info earlier, you now have a ****storm you've unnecessarily created where people like you start calling it a cover up/flawed investigation/etc

This makes no sense.

If the officer says, "He was standing and fell and hit his head." and the statement is disproven, he's in a whole world of trouble either way.

The worst policy any department could make is to release information in an ongoing investigation as they come upon it. That's just asking for disaster.
