The angle does make it look worse than it was but the guy was down....it's a bad look from any angle but it was not a dirty play. That's why the refs didn't call it.. instead, they called every other lame call they could. I'd trade that correct no call for all the bad calls they did make. There is an alternate view of the play which shows the runner wasn't down and the punch was targeted at the football, which is probably why it was not called. That angle makes it look worse than it was.
No player wants to hit his fist on a helmet. Guarantee the puncher is going to get the bad end of that. It should have probably been a penalty but it looked like he missed the helmet and hit more of the shoulder pad. But he was trying to punch the ball he just missed bad. It looked worse than it really was. It didn’t hurt the Bama player at all.It doesn’t matter if it was intentional or not. Targeting is rarely intentional but still gets called because motive is irrelevant to the action
Clearly went for the ball and made contact with it. His elbow caught him in the head but fist hit all ball. There is an alternate view of the play which shows the runner wasn't down and the punch was targeted at the football, which is probably why it was not called.
