bama/uga may be the National Championship game again this year

What do you mean by popularity contest though? because bama, OU, and tOSU are all extremely popular/profitable/historic programs. It's not like we're talking about bama vs kansas (or similar) for the 4th spot. bama would absolutely get the nod

Bless his heart, he think UCF has a better argument for the playoff spot over Alabama if Bama loses and UCF beats Memphis.

yikes. that isn't going to happen.

but upside for ucf is that maybe they can claim another title if they get left out and then win their bowl game

Exactly, play nobody, beat them all, then whine that you didn't get a shot.

That is why I will be glad when they expand the playoff to 8 games. We will either get to see a Cinderella story or get to watch the mouthy upstart get their butt handed to them, it is a win win.

maybe something similar to: (I'm not focusing too much on seeding, more on the teams in)

1. Clemson
2. Georgia
3. ND
4. Bama
5. tOSU
6. OU
7. UCF (if they beat memphis)
8. ____ 10-2 michigan? 3 loss pac12 winner (Washington)?

I think if you go to 8 you have to guarantee the power 5 champions a spot so 6. would be pac 12 winner, 7/8 is at large/best non power 5.
