It seems we’re in the undesirable position that whoever wins the Bama/LSU will have a playoff advantage over us.
So, we just have to win out.
You left out the part about why FSU was really left out.Last year proved that if you beat Bama they'll drag you into the playoffs with them. Yes the committee will be biased toward them. A bias that has been earned by the way. But we saw last year they honored Texas victory over Alabama and kicked FSU out eventhough they were undefeated. If Alabama doesn't beat Georgia in the SEC title game Texas wouldn't have made it over undefeated FSU.
So yes both things can be right. Alabama will definitely get the benefit of the doubt over us despite our head to head win but the committee knows how bad it looks to not honor head to head. So if Bama gets in with 2 losses we'll most likely ride their coattails into the playoffs like Texas did last year. Thus there's no logical reason to root against Alabama as a Tennessee fan no matter how much some of you simple minded fans will try to say there is.
This. LSU name carries as much weight as post Saban Bama and they would legitimately have a better resume on paper. We aren’t getting in above 10-2 LSU (we both might would make it). Make them show that head to head is meaningless.I don't know. LSU losses to USC and TA&M with wins over Ole Miss, Bama and @USCe looks better than a 2-loss Vols team with the only one really good win. I would rather take my chances with the head-to-head win over Bama being the deciding factor.
I hearing a different story from the sports media right now. According to them, Bama has the win over Georgia and that will top the head to head match-up lost to TN, if both teams end the season 10-2. Better be rooting against Bama tomorrow. If both of our teams end up 10-2 and one is on the outside looking in, it’s gonna be Bama. They will not let them in over us. They will not only look at the head to head, but they will also look at other common opponents. If we beat Vandy, there’s a common opponent we defeated ON TOP of our head to head matchup.
But they’ll have to look at the other common opponent which is Vandy. If we get that win, they can’t discount that on top of head to head.I hearing a different story from the sports media right now. Best in the long run if Bama ends the season 9-3 and no roads to the playoffs.
The sports media and committee can call it however they want if the records are even. Based on past history and media prejudice, TN won't benefit. Only way TN would get the nod over Bama with a tied record, would be if TN beats GA and loses to Vandy and ends the season 10-2.But they’ll have to look at the other common opponent which is Vandy. SMDH ... LSU is not 10-2, nor will they be. And if I am wrong, will tip my hat, but don't think I will need to.This. As someone else mentioned above too, Bama’s other loss (Vandy) will be a common opponent.
According to the committee website head-to-head will carry extra weight.Tony Basillo made an interesting point about wanting Bama to lose to LSU.
If you have cynical view regarding the preferential treatment Bama gets and the benefits of doubt they have received in the past, you want Bama to lose.
A 10-2 Bama with a win AT LSU, AT NIGHT likely has a more impressive resume than a (hypothetical) 10-2 Tennessee, even with the head to head. We have already seen how one playoff committee uses head-to-head match-ups to pick teams; see 2022. The Bama brand still has a national media draw—more so than Tennessee, even though we are moving into the forefront—they would get in over us.
Worth a watc.

They have to be impressed considering we're ranked 7th with 4 games to go. There's still undefeated teams behind us so our wins have to hold some weight or we would be behind the undefeated teams. I think style of play does play a role, but having a suffocating defense is just as important as putting up big scores. When they turn on the tape and see that defense, it's real hard to say Tennessee is not a top 12 team based on that side of the ball alone. When u have an elite defense and run game you can still be dominant, but the score just looks different.No. The committee just isn't impressed by us squeaking by average teams like Florida, Kentucky, and Oklahoma. If we were body bagging everyone it would be a different story. We would be ranked ahead of both Texas and Penn State. Our subpar offensive play is what they're punishing.
It will strengthen our schedule if they win. But if both lose that’s 2 SEC schools removed from the playoff race. If we were to slip up along the way and finish 10-2, we know those 2 won’t be considered before us.No. We need Bama and Georgia to win. That way our strength of schedule stays strong.
Yeah, they can call it however they want, but that still doesn’t mean thats what’s right and what should be shouldn’t be talked about. The sports media and committee can call it however they want if the records are even. Edit: I messed up on LSU they play Alabama , Florida, Vandy & OklahomaDisagree
LSU is up and down. They might even get beat by Florida.Lsu plays Bama and Auburn they have 1 sec loss if we finish 11-1 LSU takes are spot because of common opponents. They beat Arkansas.
Texas has one loss they play Arkansas , Kentucky, and Texas A&M
Texas A&M has one sec loss they play Auburn and Texas and they beat Arkansas.
If Texas/Texas A&M or LSU finish 11-1 with Tennessee. Tennessee will be out of the sec conference game.
