Same is true for LSU. They'd have two wins against Top Ten teams and their losses would be the first game of the season and a tough road game against A&M. That's why I'm saying the Vols can only benefit from a Bama win because it strengthens our SOS. If we do end up 10-2, we will only miss the playoffs if Ole Miss beats UGA or if Texas A&M beats Texas - allowing both Texas teams to get in.I Bama wins they are in.
If anything last year proves head to head matters over everything. Bama didn't deserve to be on the playoffs, but they beat Georgia, and therfore were in the playoffs. It's truly that simple.Last year proved that if you beat Bama they'll drag you into the playoffs with them. Yes the committee will be biased toward them. A bias that has been earned by the way. But we saw last year they honored Texas victory over Alabama and kicked FSU out eventhough they were undefeated. If Alabama doesn't beat Georgia in the SEC title game Texas wouldn't have made it over undefeated FSU.
So yes both things can be right. Alabama will definitely get the benefit of the doubt over us despite our head to head win but the committee knows how bad it looks to not honor head to head. So if Bama gets in with 2 losses we'll most likely ride their coattails into the playoffs like Texas did last year. Thus there's no logical reason to root against Alabama as a Tennessee fan no matter how much some of you simple minded fans will try to say there is.
A 3 loss Bama team is out, period. Brand name be damned, 3 loss Bama team is out.Tony Basillo made an interesting point about wanting Bama to lose to LSU.
If you have cynical view regarding the preferential treatment Bama gets and the benefits of doubt they have received in the past, you want Bama to lose.
A 10-2 Bama with a win AT LSU, AT NIGHT likely has a more impressive resume than a (hypothetical) 10-2 Tennessee, even with the head to head. We have already seen how one playoff committee uses head-to-head match-ups to pick teams; see 2022. The Bama brand still has a national media draw—more so than Tennessee, even though we are moving into the forefront—they would get in over us.

That happened as you said last year between Texas and Bama, but it happened with Bama getting ranked ahead of Tennessee in 2022 despite us winning head to head and also against a common opponent.
I see your point about sometimes in very very small instances to root for bama. But the absolute only way I root ever for the tide is if it’s a GUARANTEE game when if they win it puts the vols in the sec championship or playoffs now. I’m not ready to say that rooting for bama would put the vols in either one. Maybe if we lose to Georgia or some other crazy things happen I can see it but until it’s absolutely necessary me personally IMO will not root for the gumpsThen say this. If your only argument is I'm a crazy fan who isn't thinking logically then cool we can end the conversation right there. Just don't tell me it's better for Tennessee's playoff chances if Alabama loses to LSU.
