You sure? He would have been here 4 years 1 tourney appearance and next years team in rebuilding. Or you can build off of a tourney appearance and have Hubbs, Looney, and Stokes. I want the Final Four as much as anyone but having a team next season that could win it all would make me more than happy.

That's not a given. There's plenty of one time final four teams who didn't have 5* lining up after their trip.

I don't think either is a wrong answer, and a good case can be made for either IMO.

For option A to be viable to me, the loss in the final 4 would have to be a close OT game where the refs make several WRONG calls in the other team's favor and the victor then Demolishing their opponent in the NCG.

If it were a blow out loss to the team who got blew out in the NCG, option B seems obvious

On a serious, non-hypothetical note, why are you so nega-Looney? All reports seem to agree we have momentum, but you seem to think we've got no shot, curios why?

What makes people confident Stokes stays? Let's say he finally develops a jumper (doubtful lmao) and has a great year. Does he leave?

Looney/Stokes would be nice.

I hope he develops a better jump shot and lights UK up and never shoots outside the rest of the year.

I don't think anyone has said they're confident Stokes stays have they? This whole thread was a hypothetical situation saying he stays, not that anyone's confident he is.

There's a reason for the saying a bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush. I take the hardware up front instead of the potential hardware next year.

1st final 4 in UT history
CCM does something that Pearl could not accomplish
CCM has Stokes in the NBA as a junior.
If we make the final 4, then I'm assuming that McRae had a good enough year to make the NBA
CCM can now recruit saying that he can help get you to the NBA
CCM can now recruit with a tourney trip under his belt
CCM can now recruit with a final 4 under his belt.
I'm giving CCM enough credit that he can recruit top talent at the national level with a final 4 and players in the NBA under his belt. If not, then he may never be able to.
CCM is no way on the hot seat the year after a final 4.
I'm ready for something special this year. I'm not wanting to wait until next.

I'd go with this, getting to the final four would put us on the recent-recruting trail and would give Cuonzo tournament success. We don't know if Stokes or Looney would get injured and also don't know how Looney will play out.

A. A trip to the Final Four this season and lose. We lose Stokes to the NBA. We don't land Looney.

Just not setting myself up for another Nichols.
Better to be elated than disappointed in life.

Neither A or B is going to happen...we are going to win it all this year, then Stokes goes pro and my OKC thunder pick him up, then we make another run with Looney next year :)

PS I forgot to mention we beat Tiger high in the sweet 16 (Barton goes 4-6 from the 3 point line) then we beat UK in the final 4.

Then we fight off the zombie of Adolph Rupp and his legion of Calipari minions. BTO jumps off the roof of TBA with the flaming orange sword of truth and comes down on Bill Self, impaling him from head to groin. I'm in the background shredding on guitar, and it's so metal, it makes Jim Calhoun's head explode.

Anyone saying it's absolutely A no questions asked is equally as unintelligent. As I've said multiple times in this thread, there's plenty of teams who have made one final four and it didn't catapult them into a top 20 program with top recruits lining up at their doorstep.

So, saying that, then you take out of the equation that the Final 4 this year or the following with Looney doesn't propel UT into a top 20 program. So, why gamble the final 4 this year just to have Looney 1 year. Tobias was here one year and he was here then gone so quick I barely even remember him here. Potentially, if you are saying that the NCAA tourney run doesn't correlate to increase recruiting capabilities, then why gamble away success that UT has never seen? Just curious?

I wonder who would have said in the beginning of 2009 what would you rather have?

A. UT's gets it's first Elite 8 and barely loses

B. UT gets Tobias Harris and all bets off on how far UT goes in 2011

What happened within that year with Tobias that became a huge distraction? If I remember correctly we started 7-0 and was up to 7th in the rankings before all the stuff with Bruce happened.

Anything can happen when you gamble.

If you are KY, KS, NC, Duke, etc...then why not take the gamble. You've had the Final 4 experience and have been there many times. To never have it, then how could you gamble it away.
