BasketVols in the NBA (Pros)

I think people are reserved with Sheppard due to some subconscious biases. Let's face it, he doesn't look the part. He comes from London, KY, where he didn't play super-great competition in high school. But, he was super productive in college at the highest level. In a recruiting class of studs, he stood out.. He just turned 20 years old in June. He's a pretty elite shooter. And he proved he can play the PG position, which makes him increasingly more valuable.

Not everyone who comes into the NBA, even as a lottery pick, makes an immediate impact. Steph Curry, a similar style player, averaged 7.6 ppg across his first 8 NBA games. 11 ppg across his first 20 NBA games. But they allowed him to grow into his role and eventually finish 2nd in the ROY voting. And he was more than a year older than Sheppard as a rookie with two additional years of college.

*Disclaimer: this is no attempt to say Reed Sheppard is the next Steph Curry. The comparison is for illustration purposes only.
I agree with all that but I still don't understand why he was projected #1 by many going into the draft. Lottery pick...sure, but #3 just seemed too much to me.

I don't even think Sheppard was the best pro prospect on the Cats...weak draft or not (which it was). Having said that, Sir Charles nailed it re: NBA GMs and their picks.

See, I am not a Dillingham guy at all. He can score but seems like his ceiling would be 6MOY. He reminds me of a 6' 0" 165 lb version of Jordan Clarkson, and not sure that's all that useful.

RD can't get playing time on Minnesota and the only thing standing between him and minutes is a 45 YO PG and non-PG's. There are literally 24 PG minutes available every night that are going to wings. Sheppard is behind two very competitive PG's and a star combo guard and is actually getting some playing time.

Well...I'm not a big fan of either player...lol. My original point was I didn't feel Reed warranted being the projected #1 pick going into the draft and I will be shocked if he proves to be the 3rd best player of this class but we will see.

The odds that a top 3 pick ends up being a top 3 player in any draft are not good. This is the nature of drafts

NEVER understood all the love for Sheppard (and that's not to say he wasn't a really good college player with a lot of upside)

Knecht was clearly the best NBA ready player in the draft and he’s having an immediate impact for their team. It’s easy enough to say the NBA is staged and they want the best players to land in the largest markets.

The Lakers have not developed memorable talent since Kobe Bryant. Yet somehow they’re making a championship run every 3-5 years. For some reason the Lakers don’t have to develop talent for them to afford talent.

Pains me to say it but Edey is probably the best player from the draft.

Averaging 11 and 6. Had double double last two games.

1. Edey
2. Knecht

I have not watched Edey. I read that he has set some sort of record for fouls though. If he is doing well, it’s because he’s a good fit for Morant’s Grizzlies. They traded the strongest center in the league (Adams) and drafted the next strongest guy available (Edey).

Knecht is a great fit for a team with LeBron and Davis. The only place he might fit in even better would be Golden State (replacing Klay Thompson).

I said before the draft that I thought he would fit in wel with that OKC squad.

Team of younger guys that all love the game and play as a team.

I think it’s hard to judge Edey and Knecht. Edey is playing substantially more minutes than DK. Edey is averaging about 5 extra minutes a game and Edey has basically played starter minutes the past week.

They've been to 1 nba final since 2010 (Kobe's last hurrah).

They actually have had a pretty good run of drafting and developing players the last 7 or 8 years, and traded most of them for AD (which resulted in a title) and Westbrook.

That’s surprising the Lakers get so much media attention when they really haven’t been good in a while. Ball hasn’t panned out, but I don’t remember anyone else they had when AD was traded to the Lakers.

Ball is a really good player. That's proven. He's just injury prone. Brandon Ingram is a 2nd tier star*. So is Julius Randle. Kuzma is 3rd tier. Hart is a great role player. Larry Nance and Mo Wagner are good bench players. Zubac is a good starting center. Some people would say D-Lo but I don't like his game much.

Now throw in Austin Reaves and Dalton Knecht. Lakers have probably been the best at scouting college players outside the high lottery during this run.

*tiers = elites, superstars, stars, then 2nd tier stars...

Ime Udoka is hot micced for tonight’s game coaching against Pop. Oughtta generate some great “broadcastable” takes. The best will probably not be broadcast… 🤣🤙🏼
