Bearden RB Devrin Young Commits to Tennessee!

I love the people complaining because we offered him, saying he is to small. I bet these are the same people complaing of why we dont put up a "fence" around the state.

Dunn was pretty small too. Didn't hurt him at FSU or the Falcons. We're not talking porn stars here were size actually does matter.

Dont rely on how many stars the recruit is. Look at how many five and four star recruits UT has had that haven't panned out. Nick Reveiz is a walk on starting over Chris Donald, a once five star recruit.

Still, it's in LWSVol's data. Championship teams have more 4 and 5* recruits.

Don't kid yourself into thinking the outliers are the norms.

Slow down. That's too logical. Don't you know the Star System of Rivals and Scout is the gospel of future talent & success? Geez. And don't bother mentioning Cobb or McCluster or Dunn or any other lesser "star" player. Those guys are different because of X reason. UT only needs 5 star backs.

I continue to realize that a good portion of our fan base is possibly the whiniest collect of individual on the planet. And those of us who welcome positive news are just a bunch of homers.

What's Tennessee's record in games Nick Reveiz has started at linebacker?

Eric Berry had 5 stars. They get it right more often than not.

What our record with the 5* Donald starting and panning out?
If a highly rated recruit who played to hype was at middle linebacker, UT would be much, much better right now. Reveiz plays hard. That's commendable. However, when guys with his talent are doing anything other than covering the occasional kickoff and handling mop up duty after the future NFL studs are done pounding an opponent you have a .500 team.

Does UT want a roster made up of only 3 stars? Of course not, but when you have the chance to offer a hometown kid who's upside at this point is unknown, but who's on field performance is nothing less than spectacular and obvious really wants to be a Vol, it's a no brainer offer.

The problem is that when that's all your recruiting, what else could make up your roster (ignoring the 2* linemen for the moment)?

If the so called 5* cant miss players would pan out, then you wouldn't have a problem with walk on players starting over them.

Without trying to speculate too much about other aspects let's at least put the speed issue to bed. The kid's best 100m is a 10.70. Throwing out all these numbers people get used to hearing about from guys that happen to also be D-I sprinters that would actually make Young one of the fastest guys on the team. For all those who like to (correctly) discuss how fast Z Rogers is his personal best is a 10.74.

As a Bearden High alumnus (class of '94) I'm excited both to see the bulldogs doing well in football and to see devrin young committing to the vols. Also, after watching his youtube highlights I've got to think there are several good ways to use this small shifty speedy athlete on the field.
