Bearden RB Devrin Young Commits to Tennessee!

This is my only complaint.

Defining moment in the UF game this year was a fake punt, by a random guy, who should've been tackled 30 yards prior. 1 play. D. Rogan singlehandedly blows up two KY defenders to keep the streak alive last year. Not to mention a dude like Crump has been killing it on ST this year. It's a team game. You don't need crazy talented SOBs everywhere. If you have at least 1 out of 11 guys making a play, every play, you end up with a good team. Just takes time, a good coach, and a thorough knowledge of what the hell you're doing. We all know how important special teams is to Dooley. The offer doesn't surprise me, and really, this is my favorite commit thus far. I dunno why, just because he's exciting to watch and I'm eager to see if he makes an impact at the next level. I hope he does. But as a running back, he looks really damn good.

I'm not too sold on offering Young a scholarship, just seems like a risk to me, at a time that we really can't afford to be taking risks in recruiting, right now TN needs to get the most out of every scholarship given. I'll be pulling for Young and who knows the kid may pan out and be the modern day JJ McClesky but it's still a risk and one I wouldn't take at this point and time in the program. JMO

We hardly have crazy talented SOBs anywhere

I posted this on his other thread in the recruiting forum. His forty time at the U.S. Army National combine was 4.72. He has to be faster than that. Not sure what kind of timer they were using, but none of the other guys 40 times were good either.

Stars and 40 times dont impress me as much as a football player does. What ever floats your boat dude.
Give me a baller over an a ahem 4-5* baby any day. See BB. Seems to be working for Boise St.

I'd rather have the 4 and 5* recruits the teams winning the NC have.

It appears Young can play multiple positions. That means he is a little more valuable to a team with limited numbers. If you fill a backup position at RB or CB and a return/special teams spot, that's pretty good value out of one scholarship.

Perrenial top 10 is funny? Align the stars on their roster.

preach it!!!

I am talking for the star honks. I know they play no one. Please give me an ounce of credit.
That just proves their point. The teams that are succeeding against real competition are loaded with highly rated recruits. Boise's two toughest games in the regular season this year were against two teams that aren't loaded with hyped recruits, Va Tech and Oregon State. Let them jump on a steady diet of Floridas, Alabamas, and Ohio States. See how that turns out for them.

Agreed.
Plus, he has a ridiculous GPA. Considering our issues over recent years of getting guys qualified, I think thisis important. I mean, have we not all heard the constant cry of 'lack of depth' and 'only 75 scholarship players'? We need a full recruiting class that will actually make it onto campus for pete's sake! I realizehat may seem like a quaint notion or afterthought compared to the 'wow' factor of a big-time recruiting class in February but it's pretty damn important come that following fall.

This. I'm hoping it doesn't mean we've whiffed on some of the better guys on our board (perhaps a vain hope), but he does have the potential and versatility to make this a good pickup. The concern is numbers, but if we can get another 2 DTs, an OL, and 2-3 more back 7 guys on defense, the needs will be fairly well filled. Especially if we can pick up some of the top guys on our board at those spots.

I'll take the chance that a player Stanford's staff likes can at least be a serviceable backup in the SEC.

There is no value in a 5'7 CB, the game has evolved into taller, faster WR's, if TN is going to trot out a 5'7 corner against the likes of AJ Green or Julio Jones then he'd better be a sure thing, best cover corner ever with a ton of leaping ability.

Im no BS fan by any means. Just saying they do more with less. If they had an SEC schedule they would be praying to get back to the WAC
