Beer (and beer pics!)

I got an email today about VIP tickets for the Brew Feat in July. Are VIP tickets worth it? Does the Friday night VIP tasting have anything worth the extra money?

Depends on who is putting on the festival. I know with Rhizome, they are worth it. I know one year at the East Nashville Beer Fest, they had one off beers (like Rivertown Perssimon Lambic..or was it Pomegranite...either way, was amazing) and really good food. The other festivals I can't really speak of. With all the new festivals sprouting up, you have to be careful. Some are real crapfests.

It's the Mafiaoza's Brewer's Festival. The lineup seemed decent, but if I end up paying $75 for a VIP ticket, I don't want their "specialty brews only availible on Friday night" to be a letdown.

The website is musiccitybrewersfest.com if anyone wants to have a look.

On another note: have you ever done the Brew Bus in Nashville? Seems like it would be a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Picked up a six-pack of Samuel Adams Cold Snap from Walmart.

About to crack open the first one, any of you guys tried this before?

It's not bad at all. Thicker than light beers, of course, but it's actually pretty good. It has a hint of orange and lemon, a hint (emphasize hint) of spices, and has a bread after taste.

Really light/yellow foggy beer.

Not bad.

The brew bus is awesome. Make sure you do the Nashville Brew Bus. It is done by rhizome. They have the best relationship with the breweries and actually are beer people. I've done it twice...once out to calf killer and once for a weekend trip to Asheville. In asheville, we got one of the first, if not the first, group tour of wicked weed's funkatorium. The bus ride is as fun as the tours because it is like a rolling bottle share. Usually the guy running the tours is Johnny shields, who is awesome, but if he isn't doing it, usually someone else with beer knowledge is running it. Highly recommend it.

You sold me. I'll have to take off work and do that one saturday. There's one on my birthday here in about a month so I may have to take off and kickstart my bday with that.

I do have to say I'm a bit biased because I volunteer for most of the Rhizome events and know those guys well, but it is safe to say that they put on the best festivals in this area and my 2 experiences with the Brew Bus have been a blast.

I remember seeing you talk about the Brew Bus to Asheville not too long ago. Didn't know it was the same one. Do they sporadically go to breweries l in the region from time to time? Or was that kind of a one time thing?

They did this trip last year as well. The turnout to this one wasn't as good, but was a blast. They have done a huntsville trip as well.

Awesome, I'll have to be on the lookout. My schedule will become a lot less awful when I graduate in May and hopefully I can do some stuff like this more often.

I'll be at wicked weed this summer. Can't miss out on that.

I'm in search of exclusively sours and saisons (not sure if that's included in the former) at the moment. Can't get enough of them.

Burial had several Saisons, but no sours. The wife wasn't feeling well, so we didn't hang too long at Wicked Weed. Next time I'm just going to hang downstairs in the tasting room since they only have one sour on tap upstairs in the dining room. Better yet, I'll just go to the Funkatorium.

Flying Saucer has a Stone Mixtape Vol. 10, which is a Belgian something or another. Not bad, but Belgian's just aren't really my thing. Not terrible, but it's worth a try.

Anyone been to the Main Street Brew Fest in Franklin?

I have many times. Been working as a pourer for last 6-7 years. You aren't going to get anything special there, but it is fun. We love it because we live in Franklin so we always see friends there. Basically they have a station at every store. If ran right, it could easily be one of the best festivals in middle TN, but essentially they just have a distributor, Lippman I believe, run the festival. One year they had Bounty there with a table, but since then it is all Lippman. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but that is the beer you're going to get...the Lippman catalog and nothing really out of the box. As long as you know that going in, it is a fun festival.

Likely won't be working it this year since likely will be at Nuit Belge because, well, come on...belgians and top restaurants in Nasvhille?

Thanks, a couple friends are wanting to go. Trying to decide if I'm going.
