Beer (and beer pics!)

Gonna go to Tunica for a day or two next week, anything in the area worth checking out?

Have a reason for your trip? I am in Memphis and haven't been down in several years. Harrah's moving out did not help, and I don't know what the casinos are like anymore.

I've Never been and it's the girlfriends birthday so I figured it would be something different to do. I work every weekend so that makes planning difficult at times.

Looking like swinging through Memphis at some point will be the best option.

Hate to say it, but it isn't as nice as it used to be. Harrah's (which was formerly The Grand) was the first one from Memphis and was the biggest. They pulled out. I am told that Gold Strike is still there, and it was decent a few years ago.

Hutton and Smith here in Chattanooga is cranking out some really good beers. They have a rye IPA that is really really good. Quickly becoming one of my favorite beers. I also love the fact that when we go places here in Chattanooga we are starting to see more and more places carry it on draft.

Had hopslam and dragonmead final absolution a few nights back. Both on tap and both very very good. Didn't realize final absolution was 10% abv until I was (very quickly) 3 beers in and it was too late.

Kilkenny Irish Ale. I cannot find it anywhere except for Ragland Road Irish Pub in Orlando. Anyone have access to it? I'll gladly pay to have some shipped to me.

A patient decided they wanted to shoot up in the room and OD'd and died right before I got off. I can see getting ****ed up in the forecast today.

Try Mantra's Krewe D'Scheffer if you get a chance. It's a golden stout that reminds me of King cake. A bit thin, but quite good.

It's becoming one of my favorite Nashville area breweries. I live right outside of Nashville and try to sample new local beers when they come out, and Mantra has consistently impressed me.

I'm in the Boro, work in Brentwood. I know Derrick over there from his days at Cool Springs Brewery. I keep meaning to go there I just haven't yet. One day soon I have to take the time to go.

Alpine Beer Company - Pure Hoppiness Double IPA 8.0 % is great
Mother Road Brewery - Tower Station IPA 7.3% is also solid. Scary it tastes like a session IPA

Hey folks,

So haven't posted in here lately because I'm in some pretty serious health trouble. Bottom line I'm in the hospital with a rare cancer fighting with dialysis to live. But this isn't a downer post. I'm being honored this Saturday with my own namesake beer brewed by mantra artisan ales. It's a beer that is based of my fathers and I favorite candy bar...goo goo cluster. Even the goo goo folks approve it. It is a stout with choc, vanilla and caramel favors and wil be called "goo goo Gish". As I'm still hospital bound, I can't make th special tapping this Saturday, I just wanted to pass along the info and proud and touching news to my fellow vfl beer lovers.

Don't know you personally, my friend, but keep fighting. I will be praying for you, and I appreciate the insight you have provided. Good to see that others are honoring you.
