Beer (and beer pics!)

potsguy- I believe I just got 3 bottles of Mexican Coffee Cake from the brewery. I have some terrific in-laws. I told you that I would be willing to save one for you if you want it. Let me know.

Evil Twin Even More Jesus on tap, wow, what a stout. Not something I would normally have on a summer afternoon, but the tempature is in the 60s so it works.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been in Ecuador and I'm definitely still interested.

VOLatile- email me at justin.gee@gmail.com. I need your info to send you the bottle. Also, I haven't shipped much. I will use FedEx and have read some pointers about shipping bottles. Anything else that is important to do to it?

Just saw this, I've been in and out of town all of June so far. I'll email you. I've never shipped before, either, but just tell them it's olive oil you're shipping you should be good.

Spent Thursday and Friday in Decorah, IA. They have two excellent breweries there: Toppling Goliath and Pulpit Rock.

Went to Toppling on Thursday night only to find out my ID expired in April (oops) so they wouldn't serve me. Pulpit Rock on the other hand didn't even card me. I drank the following:

Saftig - I've had this one before when a friend brought it back in a crowler. It was so, so good fresh. A nice juicy IPA. 10/10

Pour-over Porter - This coffee porter blew my mind. On Saturday they released a variant of this, but I wasn't able to attend. Definitely something I'm ISO, though. 11/10

Loopy Lynn - An extremely smooth Double IPA. Probably the absolute best IIPA that I've ever had. It helps that it was as fresh as possible, as it was just kegged on Thursday and I had it on Friday afternoon. 10/10

I found Toppling Goliath X-Hops Pink and King Sue on a grocery shelf. I've had both before and they're excellent. They're sitting in my girlfriend's fridge right now, but should probably be consumed ASAP.

Loved both of them, but didn't love the trip, totally in the middle of nowhere. But the KBBS and Assassins made it worthwhile.

It is, no doubt. It's a 3 hour trip for me, with some incredible views up the Mississippi River for the first half, then absolutely nothing until I get to Decorah.

My girlfriend and I spent Thursday hiking some great trails that my legs are still recovering from and then Friday we canoed 9 miles down the Upper Iowa River. It's a great town with friendly people, but Madison, WI is a faster trip with more breweries to stop at on the way (including New Glarus) and even more outdoorsy stuff to do. That may be our next weekend trip.

June 23rd Funk Factory Geuzeria opens their taproom. Great if you are into sours.

Half Acre Daisy Cutter Galactic Pale Ale tonight. Incredibly smooth for a 10.8% (!!!!) beer. Something I could drink in the summer heat all day and not realize it's giving me alcohol poisoning.

Some great beers I've tried over the past year:

Founders - Lizard Of Koz
Delirium - Red
Alltech - No 2. Cranberry wheat

Had some brews from The Alchemist recently that a friend gave me and they were excellent. Other than that, I've been drinking a lot of Bearded Iris. I wish more of the really cool beers came into TN.

Also, some friends and I are thinking about making a day trip to Richmond, Va to see what we can find and also to stop by The Veil.

The Veil is top notch. A friend is a part owner of the brewery and I was skeptical until I was sent several of their beers and have enjoyed seeing their hype, because Dustin is a great guy.

Last night I really enjoyed Ballast Point's Orange Vanilla Fathom. It tasted like a creamsicle. I'd never had an IPL before. Really decently priced bomber at $8.99, too.
