No. He would've taken the job in a sec. He never got a sniff. He'll be considered more seriously the next time the tn job comes open.

Yep. I believe that he grew up a big UT fan and this has been a dream job for him. I can't remember where I read that though.

Why do people make such a big deal about this? Does it bother you that much that someone starts a topic that indirectly relates to UT bball and places it in the UT bball thread? I swear people just like to ***** and show others up.

You gotta be a "regular poster" in the bball forum to start a thread... lol. I think it's relative. Some people are just born butt hurt... don't sweat it.

NC not the same without Hairston.

Hell Byrd almost beat Pearl in 2010 only lost by 1 point...that's right you Pearl sheep forgot that Pearl was on a 3 game losing streak then almost got beat by Belmont then only beat UT Martin by 6 the next game. Byrd would have been a solid hire if the guy wasn't already old enough to draw social security...

That's the problem.....he's a lot of peoples choice. I would beat a paycheck against that ever happening. He's not going anywhere anytime soon unless it's an elite BB program or the NBA (I don't think he'd consider the NBA anytime soon either). Now if VCU had a couple of mediocre seasons, I could see him moving somewhere.

With the sanctions that we were facing,he wasn't going to come. Now that is in the past and if coach Martin don't pan out,a big time coach would come!

Doubt it.

Hart won't be looking to hire a 80 year old mid major coach anytime soon, I hope we're never that desperate.

80? Come on. Big difference in 80 and 60. 13 years younger than Larry Brown.

Byrd has taken Belmont to the NCAA 6 times since they joined the Atlantic Sun Conf.

Smart ain't coming to UT. Sanctions had very little, if anything to do with it. Who's the last 'big time' coach to come here? It's going to take a coach like Martin making it and leaving to attract a big name.

It's probably less than the fire coach Martin threads.Do they want Bruce Pearl too?

I shudder to think what Bruce Pearl could do at UNC. Talk about an exciting and effective brand of BBall with 5* athletes everywhere. They would never hire him, but that would be sick.

Why would he come to this mess of fans in Knoxville. As soon as things don't go the way we plan we are calling for his head. He is probably be paid plenty with a lot less stress at Belmont he won't come here.

I absolutely agree!:bow2:

He interviewed for the job. Wasn't selected. Let's not act as though it was his choice to stay at Belmont.

This is true. The main reason Rick Byrd was not chosen was the man is to long in the tooth to make a change in his career at this late date.
