Belmont upset UNC today

He barely averaged double digit minutes for his career, comparing him to Stokes and Maymon makes no sense what so ever.

I didn't compare him to anyone. You blanketly stated that Byrd relies on all 5 players to hit the 3. His offense works fine without the 5 popping out. If your 4 can't pop out in today's game, if I have a good team, I'm pulling you out to guard me and opening it up for my big man and cutters.
And ftr, I saw many of their games @ '05 or so here and Boomer played about half of each game. Double digit scorer and 7 or so boards.

Move the Tar Holes to the other section

and good for Belmont! and FTR, Byrd holds two degrees from UT, set on press row as a kid, from Knoxville and parents still live in Knoxville. He was quoted as saying...

“They didn’t ask me to be their coach, so I don’t know what my gut feeling would have been,” Byrd said

IMO, he'd come if we showed interest. I think UT is the only job he'd leave Belmont for. Such a class act and great coach.

How many scholarships did we lose?...the recruits we lost were due to the change in coaching...his last season was a mess that he had to take responsibility for....after admittedly lying to NCAA investigators....but this was no sinkhole that Martin had to fix from the ground up...he hasn't shown coaching chops in his time here...compare it to what Roy Williams inherited from Larry Brown at Kansas...much worse situation...with probation and tourney ineligibility...good coaching shows with what's on the court...hoping we see a glimpse of that this year

It was all about perception re: the NCAA investigation, and most times, perception is reality unfortunately. Was it a sinkhole? No, but Martin (with only 3 years coachibg experience himself) took over an unsettled NCAA investigation and it torpedoed a recruiting class, plus he was handed six scholarship players to work with, only one of whom had started. Hardly an ideal situation for a young coach, but we weren't going to attract a big name with our unsettled situation and mediocre budget.

And you're going to compare Kansas and Tennessee in basketball? Come on. You're smarter than that. That's akin to comparing the situation Urban Meyer took over at OSU and Mark Stoops at UK. The two situations will never equate under any circumstances. Kansas is a blue-blood program historically, dating back long before Larry Brown. He didn't do any irreparable damage there.

All good points and yes, Kansas would never be down for long, but that example was concerning a team that was gutted and was bare bones talent wise...with nothing to play for due to the sanctions....And coaching got a great year out of them...Cuonzo inherited more talent...And a NCAA bid for motivation...And didn't deliver...he needs to show an inkling of that this season

You thought the inherited roster was NCAA tourney team?

The team he inherited was nowhere close to a NCAA team. Being picked 11th in the SEC proved that.

Point...had more talent than a gutted Kansas team with no chance of the NCAA...You're not going to argue that Cuonzo did better than Roy in their first season?...not even asking that of our coach....But in three seasons his system and message should result in some stolen wins due to coaching...if not he should be gone....if it finally clicks, I'll be the first to shut up and enjoy it

Roy Williams first year there was 19-12. Obviously the talent wasn't that gutted.

A prediction proves nothing.....most people voting don't even know the rosters of the teams.

They were actually spot on early in the season. We had little to no experience with at the time a terrible recruiting class to go along with it. We extremely over achieved.

We finished about where I predicted we would and if not for the horrible early season losses may have accomplished more.

I really admire your devotion to our coach....hopefully he earns it at season's end....then we'll both be happy :salute:

I support who coaches. You made a point and then made mine. Coach Martin coached up a team picked to finish ELEVENTH in the SEC got them to a 2 seed.

Thanks for saying I made your point...I guess we differ on the concept of COACHING UP...But you have the preseason soothsayers on your side...And since they bothered writing down their predictions...let the debate:clapping:

Well you put the rosters out of both teams and you judge it then.

And I think he will this year.

Waiting for you to put it up

Your suggestion was for ME to look up and judge both rosters...mission accomplished...they invented this thing called Google :)

It's YOUR argument. Back it up.

Already did...check it out for yourself...I'm confident that neither of our OPINIONS are going to be swayed by comparing the two rosters...there were no stars on the Kansas roster and YOUR argument is that Tennessee completely sucked...I feel that Roy Williams is a great coach that showed it in his first year with an average team...you seem to think Cuonzo is comparable...I disagree...so back and forth we go...I hope the Vols catch fire...but I'm not screaming from the rafters for him to be fired...Hart probably wouldn't do it anyway unless there's an epic meltdown...agree to disagree...that's the end of my take
