Best Mob/Gangster Movies

They’re each the best in their own way. The Godfather is like this nostalgic masterpiece while Goodfella’s has more dynamic characters.

I agree. Pesci and De Niro really make Goodfellas. I love those two together. I can't wait for The Irishman.

I must have been living under a rock, but I was 2hrs in until I figured out that Michael was Pacino lol.

He did look TOTALLY different. I first saw the movie in junior high during the 80’s...so about 10 years from the filming. Didn’t place him at first compared to his other films. He hasn’t really aged badly since...face lifts help but he must have always been destined to look like he’s in his late 50’s.

Guys.... it’s Godfather I & II, then everything else.

Godfather II is my favorite.

Godfather II is my favorite.

II prolly has better overall acting performances but the transformation of Michael in the first and Brando’s performance couldn’t be matched imo.

Agree. I also like the way the first one flows better (outside of the opening wedding scene that seems to drag on forever). Part two is jumping between the early years of Vito's rise to power, and the present day struggles Michael is having.

Oh I’m not saying II is better, just saying I enjoy it more.

Godfather I is amazing.

The flashbacks and backstory are what make II awesome.

The whole backstory of the MAKING of the first installment is worthy of it’s own feature film. The Mafia was approached and gave it’s blessing with a little quid pro quo of course. The part of Carlo Rizzi was gift wrapped for Gianni Russo who was all kinds of pals with numerous wise guys. It was said the Mob could have shuttered the whole thing with their sway with the numerous unions.

I agree, but I think they are a movie unto themself.

You would probably like The Godfather Saga

It's Godfather 1 & 2 combined, but the scenes are all in chronological order. There are also dozens of additional scenes not in the originals that provide more backstory.

It's pretty cool to watch. Make sure you watch AMC's re-released version of Saga, they put back in all the violence that NBC took out years ago when it was first released. The AMC version is in HD too.

I didn't even know that existed. I'll definitely be checking it out. Thanks!

Or Carlito's way?

Pacino in his best performance of his career, IMO.

Raging Bull is technically considered a boxing movie, but it's a mob movie, too. 90% of the movie is outside the ring.

It's really not a mob movie. He won't play ball with those guys...end of story.

I agree, i watched it for the first time a couple of years ago and it definitely didn't live up to the hype. Maybe it was better 20 years ago.

It’s like Miller’s Crossing for me. First viewing is meh but for some reason I watch it multiple times and it gets better and better. Lot of character stuff you don’t get in one shot. It’s still not top 10 for me but right on the periphery.
