Friend of mine knows a rep for some whisky distilleries from all over the world. So he brought some by to try.

Amrut from Bangalore India was very good. They have a bottling called Fusion which is a blend of their single malt and a peated whisky (Indian barley but peat imported from Scotland). Jim Murray rated it 6th in the world, but I actually like the full peated bottling. Well rounded and very drinkable.

He brought some Sullivan's Cove from Tasmania. Jim Murray rated their French oak single malt 3rd in the world I believe. My buddy loved it but I thought it was so light that the different flavors were distinctive to the point they clashed.

My favorite was Blackadder Blairfindy which is an independent distiller in Scotland which produces some whisky for Glenfarclas. It isn't filtered so at the bottom of the bottle is remnants of some of charred oak from the barrel. It's not peated but still has that depth of flavor. Really liked it.

The rep said he's gotten some bottle for McScrooges. Party Source actually bought some barrels from a few of these guys. The Sullivan's Cove is pricey but the other two are reasonable for scotch. Worth a try IMO

Got some buffalo trace. Think I like it better than the 4 roses. Seems a little darker/richer tasting to me

Out of all the whiskey's I have tried that is my favorite. I have tried a lot but I really enjoy the taste of Buffalo Trace.

Gotta get something for Saturday. It is going to be chilly at kickoff. Need something in the flask to warm me up in the stadium!

I rectumend authentic Rafter shine poured into the Petro's Tea after you get there. I call it "Neyland Front Porch Tea".

You would also enjoy Eagle Rare. Made by the same folks.

The number of brands I have tried is very limited and I am working on trying to branch out and try different ones. I am just the kind of person that if I find something I like and enjoy I usually stick with it. However, I have taken note of some of the brands mentioned in this thread and intend on trying some of them.

Just about anything Buffalo Trace puts out is good.

George T Stagg, William Larue Weller, Sazerac, Eagle Rare 17 of course are all top flight. I really like Elmer T Lee, and the WL Weller was the absolute best value in bourbon, unfortunately it's now impossible to find. Of course the Van Winkles.

I've tried some of their experimental whiskeys which are hit or miss, but obviously that's why they're experimental.

I think Blanton's is solid, but for the price, I'd go elsewhere.

I've never tried the EH Taylor. That and the new Stagg Jr are on my list

Anybod tried Big House bourbon? They've been pushing that a lot on the 3HL radio show

Never tried it. I think it's distilled by the same outfit that does Bulleit. Which would put it in the same category as a marketing brand, doesn't mean it's not good though. I like Bulleit.

Managed to land a couple bottles of the 2013 Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch. May crack one tonight

Ya lucky gun. Had some of the 2012 a few weeks ago. Was really good. Paid a pretty penny to have a drink of it, but definitely worth it.

Currently I'm trying to find Angel's Envy Rye. Making a trip back to the hometown in a couple of weeks and have heard of a couple bottles at a local store. Hoping they are still there when I make it into town.

Need suggestions for a Christmas gift for my dad. He buys Jack for himself but i think he would enjoy other whiskeys. Will be giving this with some smoked salmon although he usually drinks after dinner.

There are people here who know more about it than me but you might want to throw out a price range to help them narrow it down for you.

I like the Gentleman Jack...plus he's familiar with the brand
