Is this an all SEC thread? Just wondering because if it aint, has anybody ever been to a football game at Clemson or a basketball game at NC State?

I've been to plenty of football games at Death Valley. Granted, they've owned us for the past ten years and have a lopsided advantage in the overall series, but the fact of the matter is Clemson is a medicore football program that cheated and won a National Championship. The fans expect to be in the top ten, but it hsan't materialized. They still talk about bringing Danny Ford back. It's funny. The campus is beautiful, but they are nothing more than a middle tier ACC school. They've recruited very well for the past few years. Maybe they're on the verge of taking it to the next level, they just need to get Wake Forest off the schedule.

Believe me, games at Knoxville blow the doors off games at Clemson.

South Carolina fans should know all about how to identify a mediocre football program.

True, the difference is we don't act like we're on the verge of a national title run or beginning a dynasty.........every season. Just responding to someone's perception that Clemson is some mecca for college football, it ain't. I live in South Carolina and I hear it every year.

Just having a little fun. Clemson reminds me of Colorado. They had a short run of national prominence under a specific coach, Ford/McCartney, and now they still think they're part of the upper echelon.

Thank God my friend grabbed me by the arm and escorted me to the lower deck before that guy knocked me upside the head with the bottle of Old #7 that he'd been chugging all game. It was definitely a momentary lapse of reason on my part.

You're welcome . . . :aggressive:

Hey, bottomline...anywhere you play well coached & exciting football, w players giving their all w quality fans, that win with class & lose with class is okay by me.

As previously stated there are locations where class seems to be forbidden.

I wonder if any other school's fan base can say the Tennessee fans are so friendly and warm. Id think so....the Vols games Ive been to are all smiles and hi ya'lls...at best to at worst the cool distant head nods. I'm light years away from being a tough guy but anyone throws urine on me, spits , or something along those lines I'll force them to whip my butt...thats as close to a blood oath as Ive ever done.

dan, I highly recommend you NEVER go to uf. EVERY time I've been to that nest of ignorance I've had SOMETHING thrown on me, at me or had some of their finest drunk punk student fans confront me.

In one case, my wife & I left the stadium before HALFTIME due to having a questionable liquid sprayed on us and barely dodging a wine cooler bottle.
As we were walking down the SIDEWALK toward our nearby motel, 3 of uf's drunk punk fans complete w their orange & blue painted bare torso's attempted to harass us into a fight. One spat at my wife. I have regretted not slugging the punks, but if I had, I imagine I'd still be in gator hell.

I went back one other time w a friend of mine from another school I had no interest in. The experience was not one bit better! What a group of CLASSLESS PUNKS!!!!!!!

Apologizes to the good gators....where ever they are.

I hope they have evolved to a higher state of decency than what they represented for such a long time...

oh we got some fans that could rival some of the other schools out there....i know, i used to be one of them in my younger days :biggrin2: , truthfully, though, and i've already posted some of my experiences at other schools in this thread, the only time i have truly ever come face to face to going to fisticufs was with another UT fan at a UT/Memphis game in the early 90's.

two guys were sitting behind me and my familly (my grandparents were with me and my parents and buddy of mine) and they were hootin and hollerin some pretty vulgar stuff....nothing that offended me personally, but it did my grandmother....and she turned around and told 'em to shut up, she didn't think the folks in the front row could hear them yet...and one of them made the cardinal mistake of saying "why don't you shut up you old b...ch!".

I am not a tough guy either, but i just about did my best impression of one at that point in time. I stood up turned around and told the guy if he didnt' watch his mouth, he'd get his a$$ beat right here and now in front of all his drunk friends.

didn't have a problem the rest of the game.

Now, i tell that story knowing that had my grandmother not been present, that little altercation would have never happened....but just goes to show there are classless, rude people in every fan base, there are just more of them in some fan bases than others.

gotta take the good with the bad....

:mf_surrender: :mf_surrender: :mf_surrender: :mf_surrender: I think UF fans are the worst.... I went to the Bama/UF game Bama/UT game and Bama/LSU game ( I also went to Ark, MTSU, Southern Miss, and Utah State)and comparing the fans they are all different... UF fans were very rude and thought they were better than everyone plus the cheered when prothro broke his leg... (something I dont think UT fans would do....) LSU fans just get drunk and try to have a good time the may act obnoxious but hey what drunk person doesn't. All in all out of all the rivalries bama has, I think the UT fans show the most respect. Before and after the game the UT fans acted with class and I respected that...... I tell you one thing i dread going to florida next year those guys are gonna get nasty after what we did to them....

You call it "classless", I call it immature. Just like some of the bar brawls I've witnessed in my lifetime. Bunch of low-life punks who wouldn't fight a flea one on one but let them get liquored up and together in a group and they think they're as tough as Sampson.

Unfortunately this behavior isn't limited just to the college level. I walked in on one of the awfullest fights I've ever seen in the bathroom at the old Atlanta Fulton County Stadium during a NFL game between the Redskins and the Falcons. Some half drunk horses-a$$es in Raider shirts were challenging anybody and everbody who came in the door wearing Redskins or Falcons colors. Unfortunately for them, some guy wearing a Falcons jersey took one of them upon it. After the Falcon guy beat the holy crap out of him he pulled the Raider shirt up over the loudmouth's shoulders and proceeded to strangle him with it until he turned blue. The rest of the black and silver boys just crept away into the night. I guarantee the one guy had to visit the hospital for some body and fender work, though.

Wouldn't you love to have a video of some of these jackasses in action and be able to make them sit down and watch themselves 20 years later?

I've never been to a game in Gainesville but apparently a lot of you have. It looks like a concensus to me. Florida wins, hands down!

Postscript: I've been to a lot of Vol games at Neyland, on the road, and a couple of bowl games, have been fortunate in that they have won EVERY game I've ever attended and I've never seen Vol fans be anything but gracious winners. Maybe they're different when the Vols lose. Any comments on this, anyone?

I'd lalso like to add, I cheer like hell, sing Rocky top at the top of my lungs, but NEVER taunt opposition fans. They feel bad enough about losing without having it pointed out. I'm usually very smug!.

No experience with UT fans in basketball or baseball, so I have no comment on those.

My personal experience with UT fans when it comes to football falls along two distinct lines.

1) The folks on here, with very rare exception, have been nothing but fun and seem quite knowledgeable. And not just about UT football, but about opponents and the state of the game overall.

2) Out in the real world, at football games and otherwise, I have generally found the UT fans I've met to have a poor understanding of the game. Shortsighted. Bandwagon. Not knowledgeable about players on the team past one or two of the stars.

Not obnoxious, mind you. Just not much to say past the obvious cheering.

:eek:lol: Is schmoopy anything like smug? Is is this another legal term. I'll ask my wife. She's a paralegal and may have heard the word.

Schmoopy is a term of endearment. Borrowed it from Seinfeld.

Only road SEC football game I've been to was at Vandy, and to be honest, there were more UK fans than Vandy fans.

At Commonwealth, the biggest jerks were the Mississippi State fans.
Alabama fans were second.
Florida fans were third.

Other than hearing Rocky Top blasted at every vehicle, I found most Tennessee fans to be friendly, and willing to chat before/during/after the game.

Auburn fans were also some of the friendliest that I've encountered.

We (Army) played Auburn in the 1996 Independence Bowl. I happen to be a member of that football team, and we lost a close game that was decided by a missed FG at the end of the game. After the game, the Auburn fans stood with us during our Alma Mater (Academy tradition), something which I never forgot. I'm not sure how they've treated other SEC schools in the past, but they're alright in my book....

I have always thought Auburn fans were great. We partied w/ some when I went to the SECCG in 97. We then went down to see the game in 98 and had another great time. Maybe it's just the mutual hatred of UAT that bonded us. Also my true UT fball memory was being at the AU game in 85 and seeing the goalposts come down. After that game I was a fan for life.

That is very classy. Doubt they'd do it for an SEC rival, but still...
