Better SEC

VCU lost to the probable 14th place finisher in the Big East. That nonconference schedule keeps looking better for UT. The awesome performances by Charlotte and Memphis tonight show how awesome the rest of the home portion is going to be. I just wish we could get a shot at that awful Wisconsin offense.

We played terrible last night. I think the 8 day layover and the huge early lead bred complacency. I dont know if I can mention one good thing about that game besides the win (in OT vs a 1-5 arky ST team). We still have a month and two top-10 teams before coming to Knoxville in January. Charlotte on the other hand played a garbage ECU team tonight.

Floridas loss is interesting to me. Ive heard a lot of good things about Donnie Jones first team at UCF. I dont know how good they are but they have some talent. I would still consider them a pretender but they have three cupcake games and then Miami (FL) in Coral Gables. Winning that game makes it hard not to give them respect with a 10-0 record and three good wins. I can see this being a disaster for Donovan if he doesnt change some things.

Also Hat, do you know if the kid from Jackson, TN (Casey Prather) is getting any minutes for UF? I saw him play a few times in high school and I know he's very intelligent but havent heard anything.

Not Hat, but Prather's averaging 10 minutes a game for Florida

Thanks, I havent seen them play yet since their only televised game here was vs Ohio st and I was working. hes a brilliant kid and great player but also just another wing there on a team full of them.

Well, so much for the "strong" SEC this year.

It's quite possible the SEC as a whole is worse this year than last.

The frustrating thing is that most SEC teams don't even hustle on defense. It's getting hard to watch SEC ball.

I think MHF is going to have an extremely hard time continuing to advocate that the SEC is stronger this year, if anything, it looks much weaker at this point.

BPV, please quote for Hat my responses in his defense of his statement about UNLV over on the Around the NCAA thread. Truly hysterical he believes that his defense is even somewhat valid.

The SEC 4-1 on the night, with Arkansas beating Oklahoma and Vanderbilt looking very strong in crushing WKU. Still a bad night when one of your few ranked teams loses to an unranked team. Good call TennesseeFan07.

And a reminder, lowly CUSA is 3-1 head to head against the much vaunted SEC.

That's more like it so far for UGA. Amazing what getting a Terry Cummings clone healthy and back in the lineup will do for a team.

Random but concrete observation: UConn is one Kemba Walker injury from being the team that experts picked them to be this year. Everything they earn this season will be on his shoulders. This is obviously not breaking news, but true nonetheless.

Southern Miss-Ole Miss tomorrow night should be good. I'll also be interested to see if Alabama can at least be competitive at Purdue.

The SEC is sandwiched between perennial NCAABB heavyweights (Mountain West and Horizon) in the latest conference RPI rankings.

AK challenged his guys' manhood after they got hammered at Miami Tuesday. They're rising to the bait so far.

Southern Miss is likely to finish #2 in CUSA. They have talent and will win some games they shouldnt. The question is how many theyll lose that they shouldnt. Good win for OleMiss tonight but not a bad loss for USM either.

The people who actually showed up today to watch Pine Bluff-Auburn should be given season tickets for life.

They beat Clemson by 4. Should be 10-3 by the start of conference play. Would be amazing if they were 11-2. 6 SEC wins will not get them into the NCAA...

Who could have predicted that they would win more OOC games this year than last without Downey??? Who said that was completely wrong?

They've played no one. Clemson is solid, but I'm not even sure about them. They were competitive with Michigan State, but State has gotten off to a slow start, also. It would have been devestating to have started any worse.

You may need double-digit conference win totals in this year's version of the SEC. The committee hasn't thought too highly of it over the past few seasons and it's for good reason.
