Beware of the Michiganders

The back bone of the UT staff is from Michigan.
Life is tough in Michigan. It produces some of the nicest people because they have to have a community spirit and dedication to family just to get through winter. They also have to be tough, real tough. As to how it relates to coaches from MI, i give you Schembechler and Izzo as examples. After digging for some info on our staff and coach, i believe that he/they will bring this toughness and relentlessness to UT. CBJ is known to a be a very, very tough, disciplined coach. There will be no coddling or prima donnas here and attrition will be a short term problem. As a further prediction when we start to win again, it will often be in the 4th quarter. Finally, CBJ will be one of the nicest, most personable men while he is stepping on our opponents neck.

Never lived in FL have you? Live through 16 snow bird seasons, you will change your mind.

Michigan is the armpit of the north, especially the Detroit area

Had a little girlfriend from Detroit many years ago. She drank White Russians and smoked Newport cigarettes. Wonderful sex. Broke my heart in Boulder, Colorado. Oh well.

I just moved to Michigan 6 months ago, 30 miles North of Detroit. It's not as bad as people make it out to be. It does have its places as does Memphis. The area I live in actualy has the #1 high school in America, wages are way above average, but cost of living is a bit higher. The great lakes and the northern part of the state are beautiful and the fishing is great, but it ain't Tennessee.

OP is right - Michiganders.

Or "ganders" for short

In the late 40s, basically after WWII, until the mid-60s, a whole bunch of my Loudon County relatives migrated north to the Pontiac area to work at the Pontiac auto factories or to start their own businesses. I always called my northern cousins ganders and they called me hillbilly. It was all in fun :)

I guess you haven't spent any time in California nor New Jersey

Comparing California to New Jersey is like comparing ice hockey to a nursing home. What are you smoking? By the way, Vegas sucks compared to 30 years ago when the Mob ran it.

A Michigan fan stuck his butt out of his van and mooned us when we played them in the bowl game in Orlando.Glad we whipped their butt. Real class Michigan

I am sorry to be a bit preachy but the point i made is they have a reputation for producing tough coaches and CBJ is known for being very tough.

dislike all MI teams and have always avoided MI cities when i travel there. BTW i travel to the far north west lower peninsula where i catch 20+ lb trout and salmon ... other wise would not go there at all.

sorry if you thought i was comparing or judging anything else.

...wait why are you telling us to beware?

edit: or is it just some play on a term like "beware the nice ones"

Say what you will about Detroit but I have neighbors from there and the are very nice people. Their children happen to some of the more educated and most polite children in my neighborhood. And for the record, not all of Memphis is as bad as some of you make it out to be. There is trash in every city/town in this country.

Lots of carpet baggers headed down here.

The people from Michigan that I know seem to be either very nice or complete jerks. But I'm sure they think the same about us.

Mine too, she hates to lose more than any woman I've ever known. I didn't realize it until I married one, but certain areas of Michigan are surprisingly redneck.

Look at Ted Nugent for gods sake. Lynard Skynard ain't got nuthin on him.
