B'ham station says Oklahoma petitions SEC

Anyone who cares about the SEC's image. I'm sure the TV execs are jacked up about the idea of the SEC adding that awesome Blacksburg market. All those shacks held up by satellite dishes are an advertiser's dream.

Blacksburg 10x > Morgantown, Memphis, Louisville, etc.

I'm not so sure they care what peoples' homes look like though. I'm fairly certain they go by population. The DC market is huge and the VT fanbase is expanding rapidly as they improve - I'm even seeing it in my area.

I want VT, Clemson, A&M, and FSU.

Three B list schools and a falllen dynasty, none of whom add substantial TV viewership to the league. That's a great idea. Can we add Southern Miss, South Florida, East Carolina, and Navy while we're at it?

Blacksburg is not 10x better than Memphis.

I'm still laughing at the idea that Blackburg is a superior city to Louisville.

Wow. Look at that shot of downtown Blacksburg. Truly breathtaking. Slive must be licking his chops.

Clemson hasn't won the ACC in going on 20 years. That sounds like just the kind of elite football program the SEC should add to make the league more attractive to TV and advertisers.

Oklahoma is going where Texas is going.

Plus I thought Oklahoma has to take Oklahoma St. with them wherever they go.

Personally, I don't want the SEC to get any more superior than it is. We are already losing ground quickly. As a UT fan I can't see how we're better off snagging Texas and Oklahoma. Just 2 more teams to lose to I guess.

Exactly. I'm sure Dabo Dumbass would fare really well in the SEC.

Pick 2 Clemson, GT, Miami, FSU, VT football
OR
NC & Duke basketball

Which would be better for the SEC?

Where have you guys been? This whole thing is about $$$ and TV contracts. Sure, program prestige should play a role, but this is the SEC - the monster of all conferences already. We could stay the same and still garner lots of respect.

Of the major markets, here are some

Market Sizes

DC(VT) - 2.3 Million
Richmond(VT) - 550,000
TriCities(VT/UT) - 350,000

Memphis - 600,000

L'ville - 670,000

I just think VT would help expand SEC exposure.

Thanks for making my case. The SEC needs better basketball more than a bunch of mediocre football teams.

We're a mediocre football team right now, and I agree with you also. I wouldn't actually mind pulling in some basketball schools. But lets not forget that academics will play into the decision of some ACC schools. I think Kansas would be a solid pickup in all regards but football.

If Slive could manage to pull Duke and UNC into the SEC in all sports and pull Kansas Basketball w/the caveat they could play other sports in a conference closer to home if they wished, we'd have Kansas, UNC, Duke and Kentucky. Not bad.

Except that we are a football conference. No other conference wants Kansas Football without Kansas Basketball anyways.

The SEC isn't going to take schools for one sport only.

But as far as those options go I'd chose UNC+Duke over GT+Clemson

Please, God in heaven, let the SEC get UNC + Duke. Please please please.

GT, Miami, Clemson, and FSU don't excite me AT ALL.

I'm hoping for Texas A&M, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Duke. Improves football quite a bit and improves basketball exponentially. This also opens us up to new markets. The flab four (GT, UM, CU, FSU) add nothing.

That's what everyone is hedging their bets on, that we don't see the big picture. Expand to the northeast. Are you excited to play Virginia in football? Would you be excited to play Duke in basketball...twice.

Except that Virginia is a school that is not in the picture. Basketball is irrelevant in this deal. Its about money and football = money.
