Jesus granting authority to the apostles to forgive sinners.

I am sure you have a very interesting take on reconciling Matthew 9:2 and Matthew 10:1.

Where specifically does it say they have power to forgive sins as Christ did and still get the same result?

Where does it say blessed are the ones with no faith in God because they will enter the Kingdom of Heaven?
Exactly WTF do you believe "poor in spirit" means?!?! Or how about those "who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied." What is your take on "Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God"?

Jesus never qualified these Beatitudes with "Blessed are the Christians who are poor in spirit/clean of heart/hunger and thirst..."

Feel free to take your exclusive and elitist attitude concerning salvation and do anatomically impossible things to yourself with it.

Matt 9:2 a man has faith in Christ and who he is and his sins are forgiven. Yes, the man came to Christ and had faith in HIM.

Matt 10:1 power to cast out and heal has nothing to do with someone's eternal salvation.

You are lumping two different things together. Through the Holy Spirit, we can receive the gift of healing as well. Does that make us on the level of the disciples and thus able to forgive sins on Christ's level?

Poor in spirit means humble. It means having a very humble attitude and not proud and boastful. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled by God's Spirit. That's right.

It's exclusive because Christ made it so. This is not a warm and fuzzy path here. You're either the wheat or the chaff. And the lukewarm doesn't get favor with God either. Sorry but the words are clear.

I find it odd that while Christ is speaking this and offering it to the people, you assume that he's saying "there is a way around me to get to the Father" and to ignore the other statements he makes about only one way and those who do not have that way face the other direction.

Since Christ is the judge, then, yes, people only get to Heaven through him. But, please, do not even try to argue this "Christ's own words" line of BS when you are the one who tries to downplay John 21.

I am just going to simply state that if God condemns to hell all those who have never heard of Jesus, then He certainly is a cruel and unjust God.

Throwing out another issue - is Sunday the Sabbath? Many think so and many think Christians now have their own Sabbath.
The Sabbath is the seventh day of the week. Orthodox Jews who have been observing the Sabbath ever since it was instituted observe it on Saturday.

Here is my question to all of those Bible literalists out there. Where exactly does the bible authorize God's followers to change his sabbath from the seventh day to the first day?

I am assuming that you are talking about going to church on Sundays. Christ was crucified on a Friday (Good Friday) and rose again 3 days later (Easter Sunday). We go to church on Sundays in remembrance of what Christ did for us: dying and rising from his tomb. This is not the same as the old testament Sabbath, as you said, was on Saturday.

I will ask again, why in the world would God send His only Son to earth to be mocked, beaten and murdered if we can enter the Kingdom by NOT hearing about Jesus and living "good" lives? That is such a contradiction!

How can you really say this is Christ's claim that "good" people will enter Heaven and people who have never heard His name will enter Heaven. Unless you just want it to say that in your mind there is no way that one can conclude Jesus is talking about people that do not know Him entering Heaven.

In the context of these verses you can't say this is Jesus' claim for purgatory. He is talking about those that have a low place in this life will have a high place in the next life. Heaven, to Jesus, who knew, was so infinitely superior to earthly life, that HE regarded anything that increased the longing for Heaven a blessing.

Also why would He just mention to people who were HEARING His words that they could enter Heaven by not knowing who He was? That makes no sense! I mean that is basically saying you have heard my words and believed I am the only way to the Father but don't tell anyone becasue they can get in if they don't hear about me.

TRUT is secretly a hard shell baptist.

poor in spirit to you = those who have never heard the word of Jesus but who still worship idols and live "good" lives will enter purgatory to learn about me then go to Heaven?

I'm not sure what this has to do with literalists but the Sabbath is still technically Friday at dusk to Saturday at dusk. We worship on Sunday because it is the day Christ rose from the dead and thus commemorate that. There are those Christians who say that Sunday is the Sabbath but that is not accurate. Could that be the reason we have both Saturday and Sunday off of traditional work weeks?

When I was younger I always assumed that Sunday was the Sabbath, but after I was told by one of my Sunday school teachers that that wasn't true, I looked in to it and saw that it was pretty obvious.

One thing that has really bothered me is in the move to either allow Sunday alcohol sales or to stop it from occurring here in GA many Christian groups have come out saying we are to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy and therefore should not allow sales on Sunday. Well then they better change the laws for Saturday because that is the day that should be kept holy.

Well take it up with the original Greek and what that whole line translates to. Again, go to the source instead of assuming.

Thank you UT and Spin for acknowledging the propriety of understanding the language and historical context of the Bible. I vote for NO MORE proof texting in this thread.

Find anything that translates to humble in the following:
Μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.
Mt 5:3
