Bible Topic Thread (merged)

Wow, I can run all day with this, but some people's answers have surprised me and some are about what I thought they would be (no I'm not being critical).

I believe that Jesus is the son of God, that's the definition of Christianity. I don't believe in the opinion of God doesn't get involved witht he small stuff... God IS the small stuff, the big stuff etc. I believe he gave us free will, but I also believe he knows exactly what we will choose to do.

I have always struggled with the fact of Heaven and Hell. I believe they both exist. However, if God is omnipotent and knows everything that has or ever will happen, why create something that is going to spend an eternity in hell? I know we have the freedom to choose, but I also believe he knows what we're going to choose. It's very confusing for me. I have to believe some people that do evil in this world (such as these sick ****s who rape and murder kids) are going there. I'm sure a shrink would say I need that to justify the craziness in the world, but I know it to be true all the same.

I thought that speaking in tongues was though.
Also, I always remember hearing that we will not know each other in Heaven as we did on Earth.

Only if your from Alabama, (the speaking in tounges thing)
We will not have these bodies, thank God for that, but the Bible is clear that we will know eath other and all that came before.

From the historical perspective it means exactly what is says.

It was the basis of their law.

If someone took and eye, the person would be compensated for the worth of their eye.

It was not a literal taking of an eye......

True That.

T-Town, I know you're a devout Christian, if you don't mind reading over my other post, and tell me your opinion about the whole heaven and hell thing. Why create something that is going to suffer for eternity?

It is God's will that ALL men be saved, but that Salvation must be accepted. This even applies to the Orthodox Jews, his "chosen people". The Bible clearly states that even the chosen must confess that Jesus is Lord.
I struggle with the Heaven and hell thing also, but I just go back to the promise God gave us for our own Salvation. We can not control any one else.

Agreed, we can't. I just will never understand (I'm only human) that if God KNOWS someone will go to hell for all eternity, what's the point? I know it's free will and all, but still. I do believe he's a God of love, and wants whats best for us, but I just can't wrap my mind around that one.

In past Biblical discussions on this board, I have gotten "heated", "arrogant", self rightious...., and it tought me a great lesson.

I ask that anyone that I might have offended, please forgive me. I hope it will never happen again.

I have heard it proposed as a "test" or "challenge" for all that believe, to keep spekaing the truth even when it falls on deaf ears.

I am off to Church for our Fourth of July Celebration

I will come back on line about 9:30.

God bless.

This is how I understand hell. In some translations, burning in hell forever refers to whatever is burning. For example, we are human beings not eternal beings so once we are burned up, we are burned up and are no more. In order to burn in eternal fire we would have to be transformed into eternal beings that can not be consumed with fire only be forever tortured by it. I think Heaven is real as well. And I see your point, I guess in some ways we're all learning and being tested by what we see and go through. Like there's not going to be room for someone in heaven that harbors hate so I guess I agree, I'm confused too!

This is like hanging out with a kid that keeps asking "why"...:)

I'm shooting for the 80's myself - I figure a B or B+ should do it.

So you are telling me a 80% good streak will get you into heaven?

What is good?

What is the measuring stick?

From everything I was taught, you have to repent, be baptized (the full immersion, none of this sprinkling stuff), and receive the gift of speaking in tongues in order to be considered saved, a.k.a. born again. Then you are pretty much guaranteed a spot in Heaven unless you screw up after the fact and never repeat the steps above.

So baptism and not faith in Jesus saves you?

You are correct, this can work. The only way it will not is if anyone speaks with anger and not concern for thier fellow human being.
As a Christian, I am commanded to speak the truth about the Gospel and God's plan of salvation.
Salvation is open to ANY one who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ and that he came to earth and died for our sins, rose from the dead.
All the other stuff is very open to interpretation and not preplusive to salvation.

All we can do is share Christ, I don't have to beat you over the head with it. All I do is plant.... it is not up to me to see the seed grow.

If you choose not to hear it or you would rather not talk about it that is perfectly fine with me.

OE it is so weird that you started this thread b/c ever since I read what you and Mania said about talking about stuff that doesn't matter your neighbor has died and gone to hell b/c you didn't talk to him about Jesus Christ. I have wanted to talk about that since then. It's things like that that make me a little sick over organized religion. I believe God judges the persons heart, sure witness and try to save all day but you can't say for sure what was in the neighbors heart. Furthermore it's not your place to "save" them, leave that business for God. Now talking about Jesus is fine but I just think Christians can be extremely arrogant.

My father-in-law is a pentecostal preacher and he stands by his opinion that if a person does not accept JC into his/her heart then they are not allowed entrance into heaven. So what about all those innocent children that were born in the jungle or in the middle East. I honestly believe Christians are capable of a hate that is frightning. So he thinks they will have an opportunity to accept JC at some point in their lives. The religion I was raised in says Jesus second coming will happen after every ear has heard the angels message of Jesus Christ.

Good for you, you had something on your heart and now we can talk to each other about all of this stuff.

As for christians, I am with you, but maybe not to the extreme of the whole not liking organized religion.

It is a shameful witness that christians literally eat other christians alive. What does that say about us?

If you can't help a struggling christian with an addiction or problem, how you are going to be able to witness and or help a lost person!

Thanks for opening the dialog OE. The last time I tried, I really screwed it up. One of the Mods even called me out for it.

This might be to simple of an answer but every thing in scripture is about balance........

In short, Heaven and Hell are the balance of power between an ultimate good and evil.

This is a very interesting subject to discuss.......

Part of me wants to believe that Dante was not far off.

I can think of no greater debt to pay than to see my wife and child and be seperated from them eternally.
