Why??

Some of the finest pastors in this country are women.

Such BS, but you do have a right to believe all the BS you wish

If by BS you mean Bible Scripture...I do believe it. I take it that you do not believe the Bible.

Boy, you would really hate my girlfriends former church, much like I did. They have a female co-pastor (or whatever they call them there) who is also a lesbian. It's UCC, so what can you expect, I guess.

Most Churches today put women, in Pastor roles, to avoid the whole equal rights issue. The Church that does this is more concerned with the number of butts in the pews than the number of souls in Heaven.

Exactly...I totally agree with what you have said!

I guess I did not actually answer the why question.
The Hebrew meaning of the word Elder is Pastor. The Bible clearly lets us know that the qualifications of an Elder, and Deacon for that matter, are "Husband of one wife".
As I have stated, women can be and as you have mentioned, are very good Bible teachers. But the fact remains that they are not to be the leader of a Church.

Why do you think that is? Why, would you surmise, is this how God wanted the scriptures written? Besides...of course...the obvious answer of because he wanted it that way...

how does a church measure the number of souls in heaven?

TennTrad what's your opinion of the 1st chapter of Genesis vs. carbon dating, fossil records, etc?

I believe that the scriptures are directly from God. He gave the original writters of the Bible thier words. Man has translated it many times over the years. Man changes the words to make the original Hebrew language more understandable.
To answer your question, I do not know. I just go by what is written and I will ask him when I see him.

By making sure that they are teaching and "practicing" what the Bible clearly gives us as the truth.
But, I get your play on the words that I chose. A Church will have to do what we all will have to do, wait until we all are judged and we see who is in and who is out.

I know you don't know...that's why I said surmise....any guesses? :)

While I'm sure that carbon dating can have some pretty large error, I don't necessarily think that this is any indication that the time-line in Genesis is actually accurate (I don't think that carbon dating is THAT inaccurate). Personally, this isn't that big of a problem for me because of my take on the bible. While I believe that many of the writers in the bible were surely inspired to write what they did through spiritual experiences - I don't really think that it is the word-for-word message of God. I know that is in conflict with what many believe, and perhaps what the bible says (I'm no bible scholar, obviously)...but it's my take. After considering the many translations of the words, lost books/choices made about what should be included and what to be left out, etc....I've come this kind of viewpoint.

I tend to ask questions less like "What does the bible tell me I must do for salvation" and more like "Why does the bible tell me that this is what I must do for salvation...what is the driver...why is that important...etc." I like to think I can maybe arrive at a better place spiritually and as a person through that process...and I guess that is my general view on religion. That's not what you asked...but I tend to ramble.

I am not taking that bait...although a good "man is superior" answer would get this thread going again and might get more of the over 2,500 times/people that have viewed this thread to actually participate more...but that is not my guess (please do not blast my, I know that the view number is not the total number of people that have viewed the thread)

I have heard it taught that if woman was to be equal to man, God would not have made man first. God would have made them both at the same time. I think that we try too hard to make sense of the scriptures instead of having faith in the simplicity of the word on many things.

I don't tend to blast people...well...unless the deserve it :p. I wasn't going so much for the man must be superior or God would let women become pastors. I'm really just wondering why...how does the relationship between man and God become stronger through the exclusion of women from "official" positions in the church. Perhaps that is the wrong question, but it would seem to be the primary driver for the church....to encourage and strengthen this bond.

I added to the previous post and it sort of answers your line of thinking. Which, by the way, is way too deep for a simple man like me. I did not mean for you not to blast me. That comment was for the trollers)

I do not believe that women are to be Elders, Deacons or Pastors. I do believe that women can participate in worship by leading prayer, leading songs and even serving communion.
My Sunday School teacher is a woman and a man team. She has forgotten more about the Bible then I will ever know. She is a fantastic teacher.
We also have several women that head up department such is elementary education, preschool eaducation and community outreach.

I agree with this except I'm also fine with women leading the message in the church. If they feel called to give their testimony or to give a sermon, I'm all ears. God speaks through everyone. However, while I don't have the slightest clue how to read Arabic, Aramaic, Greek or Hebrew, I've been told by those who can and several biblical scholars that when it speaks while many times the English version translates words to say man or men when it could and most likely does mean people, the words used when speaking of church leaders is typically always considered male.

Which is why I believe they can preach, lead prayer, lead songs, communion and Sunday School, they should not be The Preacher, an elder or deacon. I've actually only had one male Sunday School teacher and he was mostly just helping his wife.

I was hoping that someone would take it a step further. I too agree about the teaching a lesson, or preaching during a service, is perfectly fine and good. I could listen to Kay Arthor all day long.
Good post!

I can't find anything in the Bible to make this credible.

I believe that you may have taken my post to mean that I think that a woman can be a full time preacher. I guess I was a little vague on that. That is not what I meant. Some of the best sermons and testimonies that I have ever heard, have been delivered by women.
The full time Pastor, Elders and Deacons are scripturally to be male.

I sure can.....

1 Corinthians 14: 34-35

1 Timothy 2: 11-14

In I Corinthians, Paul was addressing a specific problem that the Church was having. If you will read your footnote on those two verses, you must go back to verse 29 and read from there. The two verses you pulled out support your claim but do not tell the whole story of this passage. Reference I Cor. 11:5, Acts 2:17, 21:9, I Timothy 2:11-12

The early Church was having trouble with false prophets and the two verses you give are specific to that situation. There are many references to women prophesing/teaching and praying in public worship.

Where are these references?

The ones you listed have nothing to do with church. They don't even mention it. Prophesying or praying in public doesn't exactly mean church.

First, can we agree that this is not a salvation issue?

"Church" is a modern term for the buildings that we now build to gather in. In the days of the early "Church", they were just gathered around a tree or in someones house. Not the "Church" as we know it today. Any gathering of people, back then, where the Gospel was discussed is what the Bible tells us was their "Church".

I listed some references in the previous post.
