Women leading men to God. I thought women in leadership positions was ok now. I thought the term "Man" or "Men" meant all people like mankind sort of thing. So what if a man abandons his family leaving a woman to lead her children to Christ. Are they lost? She is afterall serving as a leader. It's so offensive to say women are not meant to lead people to Christ. The Bible gives specific accounts of Christ himself taking time for women and treating them the same, His actions speak way louder then some of y'all's grandfather clauses.

I believe that you are using a diffent meaning for the word "leader". The question posed is about leadership of the Church. Not an individual leading someone to Christ or being the Spiritual leader of their own family. I dare say that most women are stronger Christians in their own families, than the man.
The constitution uses the term "men" to mean all people, but I believe that when the Bible says men, it means a male.

i think you are taking this way out of context. t-town is talking about women leading the church, not leading ppl to Christ.

We are not saying that it isn't okay to for women to lead people to Christ. We are saying that women shouldn't be elders, deacons or pastors in the church. My favorite Christian speaker is Beth Moore. It is fine for a woman to be a teacher...but not a pastor or deacon.

And yes...Christ did treat women with respect. But also, when given the qualifications of a deacon/pastor it describes a husband with one wife.

So a woman can lead a family but not a church? Isn't a church just a building? I was always taught a church is the people in it, not the bldg. Furthermore, back in biblical times, men and women didn't even worship in the same room. I dare say if you sit next to your bride during services, you'd be considered very progressive my friend :) I'd like to see Esther, Deborah and Ruth talk to you about women leaders...

Esther was a Jewish queen who saved her people...she was a leader to her people, not a leader in the Church

Ruth was a widow and had lost both of her sons. She became the leader of her family along with her daughter-in-law Naomi. Once again she was not a leader in the church.

It is the exact same thing. Grant it I'll be honest and say I've never attended a church whose head pastor was female, however, if a woman is given the gift of leadership I don't think she should be overlooked or dismissed simply because she is a woman. How many times have you seen men falling asleep in church? So let's not sit here and say men are the one and only way.

And, what do you think AV?

I am not versed well enough in Scripture to give a good opinion. I was stoking the fire. I consider this particular issue a small one. I do think God intended us(men and women) for different roles though, thus us being different. I can see both sides of the argument.

That being said, our Interim Associate Minister at my church is a female.

what are you talking about w/ men falling asleep in church? hahaha.

that is not even the point. the point is that in the bible it talks about how women should not lead in the church. plain and simple

1 Timothy 2:12 - But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

There are some books that portray Mary as a leader in the fledgling Christian movement. Granted those books are not included in our modern Bible but if you look at its history many books were not included in it.

People pick and choose the verses that could be relevant to their line of thinking on a particular subject. I haven't been to church in years, but even when I was going, I never saw things that explicitly stated that under no circumstances should a woman lead a church.

First of all, please be careful using that "We" word.

Secondly, I like Beth Moore as well and let me say this, she is waaaayyy more powerful of a speaker than a lot of men I've seen. I'm sure Christ would have a problem with her leading a church  Seriously, can you see God saying "Nope, sorry, I've given you this tremendous gift, but b/c of this man made issue, I can't let you lead a church" Whatever! Don't you guys think the world is in such a state that God is joyous of anyone that wants to lead a church.

So my other thought is that I think the reason most ultra conservative Christian churches take issue with a female leading is b/c most of the churches doing it are generally assoc with Liberal and or gay. Since we agree on Beth Moore, I would be willing to bet if she was given a church, it would start to change the way conservative Christians look at women in leadership roles.

Okay...so "no one" was saying that it wasn't okay for women to lead people to Christ.

When I talk about Leadership roles...I mean such as the pastor or a deacon. That doesn't mean however, that women can't serve in the church. I know several women who are the children's minister. A woman should not be in control of the church.

Beth Moore is a fantastic Christian speaker. However, I don't believe that she would change the way conservative Christians look at a woman in a leadership role.

Titus 2:3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.

Great examples of very Gody women in the Bible. I look forward to talking with them one day.
Esther did what needed to be done to protect the Jews from Haman. But never considered herself a spiritual leader.
Deborah was a prophetess and judge.
Ruth was rewarded by God for her loyalty to Naomi, and is an ancestress of Jesus.
Great women of the Bible, but not in any kind of leadership roles.

I'm just saying men are leading and people are still falling sleep, it was meant in a joking manner with a message that men and women are still missing the boat even though men are leading.

I realize a woman should obey her husband and her husband should obey God, I'm just saying it's arrogant to think God would not allow a woman to lead a church.
