In the Bible (correct me if I am wrong, t-townvol) but it doesn't specifically say that it was his mother that Jesus appeared to at first. It just says Mary.

Matt. 28:1,9,10 it was Mary Magdalene, mother of Jesus, and the other Mary, that he appearred to first.

I put the, Mother of Jesus, behind the wrong Mary, good catch.
Alot of scholars say that the other Mary was the mother of Jesus. Strong's Concordance says that it was her.

I was just making sure that I wasn't going crazy...:) I always thought that the other Mary wasn't the mother of Jesus...What do you think?

In the end of Matt Chapter 27, the other Mary is refered to as the mother of James. Isn't James the earthly brother of Jesus?

T-Town, please refer to post #598, I'm trying to talk to you about something... Ignoring me makes me think I win! :birgits_giggle: I'm, of course, j/j, but I do want you to tell me what you think about visions and current day angels messages...

You are a winner in my book. I did not ignore you on purpose. There was a bunch of things being thrown around when your post came in.
Anyway, I believe that the "messages" that we recieve are most likely the Holy Spirit working on the heart of each believer. Some say that they have recieved a vision or a word from God and who am I, or anyone else to doubt what they say. The only thing we can do is go to the scriptures and "fact check" what they are telling us that they heard or saw.
Speaking in tongues is one of the nine manifestations of the gift of the Holy Spirit in our lives. This I have never seen in person but I do not doubt that it does happen.
With that said, I believe that the use of Angels, to speak to us, has been replaced by the Holy Spirit.
Gods word is perfect as to the things that provide salvation for everyone. The other stuff is food for discussion when we see him.
That is probably not the answer that you are looking for, but I am a simple minded man.

In I Corinthians, Paul was addressing a specific problem that the Church was having. If you will read your footnote on those two verses, you must go back to verse 29 and read from there. The two verses you pulled out support your claim but do not tell the whole story of this passage. Reference I Cor. 11:5, Acts 2:17, 21:9, I Timothy 2:11-12

The early Church was having trouble with false prophets and the two verses you give are specific to that situation. There are many references to women prophesing/teaching and praying in public worship.

thank you T-Town

We need to quit reading the Bible quote by quote and read it as a whole. The message isn't what's in I Cor 11:5 nor is the message in 1 Tim 2:12. Paul was writing letters to express the problems going on within the church (which should be read as spread of Christianity) at that time. They were simply letters written by Paul expressing what needs to be done so that the church can be whole. The message to be taken from the Bible comes from the whole book and anyone can be led to Christ by anyone and anyone can teach and preach, but by the language of the time, only males can be overseers of the church itself. Also, as T-Town has tried to emphasize, please realize the church is a group of Christians. It's not a building.

Communion...actual wine OR grape juice?
unleavened bread only OR any bread will do?

It must be a Southern Baptist thing...we have never had wine...it has always been grape juice and we never had unleavened bread we always had crackers that didn't have yeast or anything. (They were terrible)

In the super strict Indy Distinctive Baptist Church I grew up in it was wine and unleavened bread.

The two Souther Baptist Churches I have attended since was grape juice and unleavened cracker.
