Biggest bust as a highly touted recruit.

You guys are right. I was thinking he was. I think the next potential answer would be Harrison Bailey then. I’m almost certain he was a 5 star and he’s really had a lot of trouble finding success anywhere he’s been.

Other guys that I think of are guys that were really good, but couldn’t stay off of the weed. Da’Rick, Banks, Coker, D Morley. Those guys were all Sunday talents .
I know Ohio St. and Urban wanted JG so I was really excited when we beat them out for him and I thought he would be much better than he was it’s a shame it didn’t work out but he had plenty of chances to get it done at UT it seemed like he was here for a decade. Finished his college career at Washington St.

I don't know if it was the "biggest"...but certainly a NICE Tennessee Bust...

Dear god i'd still love to BUST her one good time! lol

Who would you say in your lifetime of following Tennessee football was the biggest bust or a recruit who everyone thought would be great but was a huge disappointment. Mine would have to be Brian Darden.
Was thinking what you said before I read it.

He wasn't a "bust". Burton contracted some sort of rare disease that forced him to stop playing football. I think the context refers to players who didn't perform anywhere close to expectations. Burton never had the chance to play

Your point is well taken but he did play in 78 and showed flashes of brilliance. If I recall correctly he even played a few snaps in 79 but it was apparent he wasn't his own self. Believe it was a rare blood disorder . But he wasn't a bust by any definition, he was the real deal.

He quit on his team. He got lit up and fumbled in the Georgia game because he lost focus and tried to showboat into the end zone. Then he refused to play in the A&M game and left at the end of the season. I don't care what the coach did or didn't promise him. He handled that situation about as terribly as you can. Plus wasn't he the catalyst who pushed for the firing of S&C coach Dave Lawson? Yeah, the impact of that was definitely felt the next season when we looked about as soft as marshmallows against Appy State. I'm not saying CBJ didn't do him wrong but the way Hurd handled it was bad. He SHOULD'VE been a beloved VFL, up there with Al Wilson, Manning, Eric Berry, etc but because of how he acted, he's all but forgotten about now. Truly a shame.
That was JRM and other team leaders.

JG all the way.
He not only put up respectable stats, but has played in the NFL lol.....and he was only ranked in the top 70...not like he was top 10 or something.

And yet his QBR is better than all but a few modern UT QBs. People just hated he was on a losing team. Worst rushing attack in the SEC b2b years and a porous OL like no other. Guy took a beating, graduated, and gave all he had. VFL in my book. Unlike others that quit midseason on their "brothers"
