Bill Nye is a godless liberal

Like I said (and I'm a Libertarian not a conservative), based on my experiences conservatives tend to smarter than liberals. However, liberals tend to far more artistic, creative, free spirited, and exercise "carpe diem" more than conservatives.

 if you say so

At least in my experience, liberals are more educated than conservatives. I'm hesitant to say "smarter."

Now, whether that is because college has a tendency to "brainwash" people into liberal mindsets or because there is some innate correlation between political alignment and intelligence, I do not know.

For Christians who read the Genesis account literally, or authoritatively as they would say, the six days in the account are literal 24-hour periods and leave no room for evolution. Young Earth creationists use this construct and biblical genealogies to determine the age of the Earth, and typically come up with 6,000 to 10,000 years.

The Gallup Poll has been tracking Americans' views on creation and evolution for the past 30 years. In June it released its latest findings, which showed 46% of Americans believed in creationism, 32% believed in evolution guided by God, and 15% believed in atheistic evolution.

Am I reading that correctly? As of June this year, 46% of Americans believe man was fashioned out of dirt and divine breath, with woman from one of his ribs, in a garden, with a talking snake, conversing with God...all happening around the same time the Egyptians were inventing beer?

but at least science is still trying to figure out answers. Can the same be said for the majority of religious followers?

pretty large generalization, huh?

Ever occur to most that the main loudmouths on the creation side are the ones bent on shoving their ethics down everyone else's throat? I don't believe them to be remotely mainstream.

I don't know that the 46% are all Young Earthers. But they certainly believe that man was created by God exactly as we are today with no natural selection involved.

I don't think it was that out of line based on the numbers above. I also don't like anyone shoving their beliefs down anyone's throat

Those are your experiences. I am sure others on here have had similar experiences.

I will say my one caveat (which I should have disclosed) was that I was comparing "educated" liberals to "educated" conservatives.

materialism? not sure I follow

Materialism is the philosophical doctrine that consciousness comes from materials/matter/energy (ie the synapses of nerves in the brain). This is different than say dualism which asserts that consciousnesses is a phenomena in and of itself; different than the body. The mind/consciousness is wholly separate than the body/external world.

Materialists are always keen on evolution until now but I have never heard one continue that timeline and its implications into the future with respect to evolution. I know your probably not well versed in philosophy and probably do not consider yourself a "materialist" before now, and certainly did not mean to add a new twist on an old philosophical doctrine. Nevertheless, you did that albeit unintended. It's an interesting thing to think about.

On top of that, you sprinkled a little bit of skepticism on top of that into your argument with respect to the external world. Classical skepticism is almost exclusively dualistic in nature. Also, an interesting twist to classical materialism.

Interesting thread. I for one take a rather simple belief - I believ in the theory of evolution and believe science has it right for the most part. I also believe it was all part of God's plan. He set it it motion.

It's a relatively simple reconciliation for me as I do not take the Bible literally.

I think a lot of people probably share this line of thinking.

Cheers.

There are two types of creationists. The young Earth creationists believe like you said, that the Earth was created 6,000 years ago. The more prevalent view is old Earth creationists. They believe that just because the Bible said that the Earth was created in six days and six nights, does not mean that it is to be taken literally. They believe that 6 days and 6 nights could be any time period. There's also a sub-sect of old Earth creationists that fall under the "guided evolution" path, which is what I think most of the people in that 46% believe in, at least in part.

Well I'm semi-well versed in philosophy; particularly philosophy of science.

I say that I'm not a materialist and I was just using that to explain my earlier comment.

Well, my point was you trying to say conservatives are somehow smarter than liberals is complete, utter bull****. You were talking out of your ass.

a step above Obama in your opinion

I'm not voting or I'm voting for Johnson. A vote for anybody but the red candidate in TN is a wasted vote.

of course it's my opinion but it matches pretty well with some men that were much smarter than I am. Obama's views disagree with those men (who were much smarter than him too). Of course many of those voting for Obama wouldn't know those men anyways so I'm starting to think intelligence in the US going in the same direction of wealth

it's quite simple, the men that founded this country were much smarter than any politician we have today. Which candidate would induce less vomiting by those men? In my opinion Obama disagrees with them more so that makes him and his followers less intelligent.

Speaking of intelligence, let's follow your circular logic.

1) The founding fathers are more intelligent than Obama.
2) Obama (in your opinion) disagrees with the founding fathers.

∴ Obama is less intelligent than the founding fathers.
