Billy Donovan to Magic . . . and back? (merged)

I doubt Hat would dispute that, but the point is that from a regional perspective, there's not much to get excited about NBA-wise if you live in middle TN; especially when the Grizzlies, Hawks and Bobcats aren't offering much. Further, I highly doubt the NBA was ever very big in that area even when the NBA was in it's heyday in the late 80s and early 90s.
as someone that lives in Charlotte, a city that actually has a good history of supporting the NBA with the Hornets, i can tell you that this city has had lukewarm, at best, feelings about the bobcats and the NBA today. Memphis probably does a pretty good job of supporting the Griz, and Atlanta...eh...i think ATL is a terrible sports town, but that's jmo.

so, in short, i agree w/you...

Atlanta is a great sports town, its just that everyone is a transplant and cheers for other teams.

Compare rating of a JP game involving Auburn to an NBA game, than you'll be comparing apples to apples. Also, if the college game is a comparable product, why is face value on the best ticket at TBA somewhere around $25, while that won't get any ticket in a bunch NBA venues?

A JP game and an NBA is not an apples to apples comparison unless you compare it to SportsSouth or another regional broadcast.

Apples to apples would be a CBS college game versus an NBA game on ABC.

i lived there for 3 or 4 years, and just never got it.

the falcons were real hit and miss, and the only time anyone ever talked about them was the year they went to the super bowl. o/t than that, never heard anything to speak of. the braves....i'll give them that, but even with them, they couldn't even sell out playoff games at Turner Field...the hawks...???? no one cared. the Thrashers?

the only two things that were a done deal was SEC and ACC football. GT, GA, and Auburn, lines clearly drawn for those.

as for the rest....eh.

I bet the NFL has had more players suspended for drugs in the last 5 seasons than the NBA has. Where is your disgust for the NFL?

atleast those players put a good product out on the field.

All I'm saying is young urban youth, black or white, look up to basketball players. These same basketball players that showboat, argue, complain, get in trouble, beat their wives do drugs etc etc are showing these kids the wrong lifestyle to have.

:eek:lol: :lolabove: :birgits_giggle: dude, you just killed your arguement right there.

you've basically just given a pass to the NFL, because you like the NFL.

way to make an argument full of holes. VIA...have fun.

Suburban kids don't look up to NBA players?

Hispanics, Asians, and other youth of non-black or white ethnicities don't look up to basketball players?

The NFL and MLB don't have players who "showboat, argue, complain, get in trouble, beat their wives and do drugs?"

Your position on NBA players is nothing more than a narrow-minded sweeping generalization.

I'm saying the kids who are primarily causing trouble, atleast here in Nashville are the young black and hispanic kids. Not to say that white kids don't, but the blacks and hispanics primarily commit the crimes and they all wear basketball jerseys and play basketball. Basketball is the cheapest sport to play next to soccer, and these kids can't afford much so they eat sleep and drink basketball and NBA.

Are there ANY good sports cities in the south, though? The people who grew up down here care mostly about college football, with the passion for everything else lagging far behind, and the transplants (75% of the people around here) still root for the teams they grew up with.

Atlanta's definitely not a very good sports city, but it's not just Atlanta. It's the whole region.

I heard on Mike and Mike that Donnavon wanted out of the Magic, is this definately happening and did they replace him at Florida?

...because obviously criminal behavior is a product of watching the NBA and not the environment in which a child is raised.

Not to mention the NFL's commish is makiing it his priority to quell the numerous criminal acts his players have been accused of.

"Here in Nashville". Sorry, but Tullahoma, Columbia, Pulaski, whereever it is you are an hour South, is not Nashville.

Funny story - in high school, we played a spring break game against Giles County (pulaski), which is the birthplace of the KKK.

2 days later, we drive to Atlanta for our team trip to Six Flags. We go to Underground Atlanta during .......... Freaknik!

Talk about extremes.
