Billy G is Overrated!

sd has better offensive talent than ky. fundamentals aren't worth a nickel with no PG and no ability to threaten the D or score. they can move all they'd like, but you have to eventually make shots to win. bottom line, they haven't made any.

every game I've seen they're rushing their shots or taking bad ones. Duke pulls it off with a horrible PG.

limited offensive options will always result in poor shots. it will not get better for this team with their current options. they could play better D.

duke's PG is surrounded by dramatically better talent, they can shoot the 3 and he's a better Pg than anyone at KY. paulus definitely hinders duke as the competition gets better, though.

There is something not working with him and the University of Kentucky.
True. What's not working is that he has one good player and the rest of his players are dogs or garbage. Billy Clyde won 6 games his first year at UTEP. Care to guess how many he won the next year, after he drove the dreck out of town and got his guys?

a lot of what i see at kentucky is a lack of passion and commitment to give it their all. These kids definitely played harder under Tubby. Granted, Tubby got them to UK, but a good coach should be able to get any group of kids fired up to play this far into the season. No group of kids would play like this under Knight, Pitino, Williams or K.

You obviously didn't see Texas Tech's fabulous effort against Centenary this year. Also, you must have missed Lousiville's entire 2005-2006 season.

those coaches wouldn't have guys like Crawford and Bradley around. that said, no coach could help these guys score much more.

coaches can't help but get some dogs. unfortunately, they're stuck with them for a period.

i did see louisville's 2005-6 season. They were trying. UK doesn't. It's that simple. This group of "garbage" players still shouldn't lose to San Diego and GW. The reason the talent on the opposing side looked better is because they are playing better fundamentally and are playing as a team. Gillespie is going to have find something to bring this team together. Comparing first year at UTEP to first year at UK is laughable.

i love things like hustle and heart and fundamental ball, and all teams could improve there, but this team is not going to benefit greatly. They need a consistent scoring threat more than anything.

No he isn't and no it's not. The best course of action he could take is to send Bradley and Crawford packing. At least then, he would have to worry about them infecting Meeks, Patterson, or Jasper with their attitudes. At UTEP, he had to try and coach somebody else's guys. Same at Kentucky. Billy Clyde is like Huggs, it takes a different bird to play for him. Bob got lucky and took over for Beilein, who recruits similarly tough minded kids. Tubby and Billy Clyde are as different as Mr. Rogers and Hannibal Lechter.

Will Gillispie make it through the season at UK? The fans have had about enough of him choking against weak teams, and will not be sorry if he packs it up like Bobby Petrino and heads back to Texas.

Patrick Patterson could be a better player than anyone on USD's roster in the last century. I wouldn't be surprised to hear him start to talk transfer coming this March.

but patterson is all they have and he gets no love because d's can focus on stopping him since the remainder of the crowd can't beat them.

If Patterson goes anywhere, it's to the NBA. The chances of a guy like him willingly sitting out an entire season are the same as a Alan Keyes win in the Iowa Caucuses.

How quickly we forget the trash CBP inherited at UT. He made it work, found a way to win, which is what it's all about. Gillespie may not have the luxury of waiting to get "his players" on board.

I see several posters gloating in the downfall of UK. I for one, would like to have them as a top contender again. The better the competition, the better your team will get seeded and be prepared when the games matter most.

Agreed. Like it or not, UK legitimizes the SEC, and winning it when they stink will greatly belittle the accomplishment.

pearl had some of the pieces for his system and the 3 made us more viable. anybody that can shoot the 3 well can be in just about any game.

KY has the lone weakness that cannot be overcome.

yeah no other team in the past couple of years has done anything to legitimize the SEC. Winning the conf is winning the conf no matter what state UK is in.

there is no debate that winning the conf. is diminished this season. UK and UF are both weak.

we'll agree to disagree. We can revisit this thread in two years and see what kind of progress he's made.
